Tanz MIT Dem Kaiser
cynthiahost17 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Marika Rokk as Baronin Chrisitna Von Alwin is wealthy. Her husband the Baron is obviously dead or may be her father was the baron and inherited the land and wealth when he died. The peasants love her. It takes place when Austria and Hungry where one. Back in the colonial time,s in Europe people were not very hygienic as shown when Marika is bathing with her under ware on. She and her peasant neighbor's are having some kind of celebration. Earlier the empress ,Empress Theresia, is planing some celebration too, may be a centennial. Well she ask Rittmeister Von Klebber to go to the Baronin to inform her of the invitation to the centennial and for her service's as a dancer, may be. Well the whole problem is that when Marika thinks Wolf is the Empresses son ,played by Axel Von Ambesser, this is when the light comedic complications happen. The set' are elaborate and the costumes are enrich in detail of the history of the period. It could of been the third film in AGAFA color. But it was too expensive and at the time not enough was being made. The Nazi's could not find enough slave,s for the plant since they were murdering them . There is one inaccuracy ,Klebber, teaches Christina the waltz. It begins with the minuet. As you know, the waltz was not created at the time. the dance number,s are well choreographed , all most Busby Berklyisn. Another thing it was implied that Chritina and Klebber slept with each other but if it was shot in U.S A.,under the Hayes code, Klebber would of have to been punished for having sex outside of marriage by being executed for impersonating a Kaiser. Well, this is a good German film classic and one which Ms Rokk is doing something different other than doing acrobats and suggestive drag numbers, remember the kiss she gave to the women in the dance number in Sensation's in San Remo? Worth Watching and owning. The box number claims that it was made in 38 but the film info state's it began in 41 and released in 42 so I don't know which to believe. avalable at www.warfilms.com
