Kirsten at her best,singing!
cynthiahost4 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Kirsten as a singer, her personality shines. But when it comes to her playing a leading role as an actress, her personality gets weak, but that weak. This is one of these fantasy Hollywood style musical, done in Nazi fide Germany ,back then,or the German term for it Damals. But now for The Nazi propaganda news ,back then.Goering ,the fat drug addict and thieve of European art, celebrated his forty eights birthday.Japan Celebrates their twenty six hundred anniversary ,with Mr and Mrs Hirohito as the host.Every one dresses in Modern cloth as if it was shot in Grant Avenue.A Stuka pilot kills a British pilot ,in the skies.A big lie being told in a Nazi meeting that German women and children are in concentration camps in English speaking countries.A 1950s theater commercial about Wearever or Shaffer ink pens. Now for the film.Kirsten ,plays Vera a big Berlin theater star.Hans Sohnker, plays Axel,a struggling composer. His room mate Andreas, played by Rolf Weih ,is a struggling Librettist. They are both fans of Vera and want her to be in their own musical. They struggle working as musicians ,at club, playing, playing forbidden music,at the time. When Axel accidentally gets Vera's glove, Andreas tries to find a way for them to meet,by duping Axel that the manger called asking for the glove. When both Vera and Axel meet this is when the chemistry starts to hit After successes with the musical,Vera ask Axel to marry her ,just for a publicity stunt,in name only. But slowly she start to fall in love with him. Margo Hielscher, whom after the war would become the Dinah Shore of Germany ,who is still alive at this writing, with hit tunes like ,"Telephone, plays the actress and dancer in the revue, who aspires to be a big star, like Vera. Fritz Odemar , plays Werner, music critic, whom he 's friends with.Charlotte Daudert, portrayal of dumb Aryan blonds, round out as Vera's friend Jenny. Her husband ,who's a lawyer, involved in the theater too ,Rolf,is played by Hienz Welzel. Wonderful music and songs by Franz Grothe ,that Kirsrten sings. In the beginning there a little joke played in the music number,or was it part of the play? where Kirsten all of a sudden stops he dance number and now you see this movie sett ,instead of the stage, where she complains about the problem with the costume and has the costume designer kicked off the set, then it becomes the stage play and movie again.I don't know if thats the reason why after the war ,Norway got mad at her for working under Hitler.Nobody hiring her to do films. She ended up going back to the stage and made one more film in Germany in 1955.If it was her subtle weakness in her acting might have been the real reason? available at Germanwarfilms.com 01/04/13
