A Cartoon Golfers Would Particularly Like
ccthemovieman-119 December 2006
This is a golf story that begins show a golf course being ruined with divots the size of craters. Of course Tom is the guilty party, hacking away - literally. When he finally sinks a putt, the ball pops back up out of the hole! That signals of arrival of Jerry who is underneath in the hole shoving the ball back out.

Once out, Tom captures and for awhile the reverse that usually happens occurs: Jerry takes a beating. He gets roughed up in the ball washer, gets used as a tee and as a ball.

Finally Tom is the one that gets physically abuse on the course through various means, including bees and a woodpecker!

It's typical Tom-and-Jerry trying to kill each other, usually in clever and humorous ways. Golfers will get a bigger kick out of this than others, but everyone should get a fair share of laughs out of it.

Teed off
movieman_kev30 May 2005
Tom the cat is golfing quite horrible, in my humble opinion, and when he finally does manage to miraculously actually get the ball in the hole Jerry the mouse is there to continually pop it out again. This of course infuriates the poor cat. So Tom captures him and uses him as a tee hoping to improve his game. Of course wacky madcap hijinx ensue. This was a fairly amusing short and it was great to see Tom getting some rather good hits in on Jerry, which it seems seldom happened. This great short cartoon can be found on disc one of the Spotlight collection DVD of "Tom & Jerry"

My Grade: A-

Tee (hee)
CuriosityKilledShawn22 December 2006
The cartoon begins with Tom in the middle of a VERY bad game of golf. Already about 86 over par he, for some reason, uses Jerry as a Tee. Not taking kindly to this Jerry turns the table and plays tricks on Tom. And that's pretty much it for the rest of the cartoon. This one has quite a thin premise but gets enough mileage out of it I guess. The visual jokes are all rather amusing but I do feel sorry for Tom when he's victimized in such a way. Whether it's being stung by a hoard of bees or having his teeth smashed out by a rogue ball, Tom seems to get more than his usual share of pain in Tee for Two. Does that make me a bad person for thinking that it's funny?

Great T&J film!

I'm a huge Tom and Jerry fan, and this is probably my all-time favorite Tom and Jerry cartoon. I always root for Tom, so in the rare case he actually lays some punishment on that bratty mouse, I love it. There's a really funny instance in this one where Tom gives Jerry an unwanted bath in the golf ball cleaner, hilarious! Of course, Jerry gets the best of Tom by the end, by making Tom eat some bees and then Jerry golfs a ball at Tom's head, I sure wish Tom would have won more of these battles!

Time for a spot of golf with Tom and Jerry
TheLittleSongbird2 July 2010
I agree it is very simple and has a somewhat predictable story, but Tee for Two is still a very entertaining Tom and Jerry cartoon. I wouldn't dare call this the best Tom and Jerry cartoon, but I enjoyed it very much for what it was. I am not the world's biggest golf fan, but the cartoon made it seem so entertaining and fun.

Why? Well the animation is lovely, especially in the backgrounds and colours. The music is nice and energetic. And the sight gags are clever and funny, it is not everyday where you see Tom physically abused by a woodpecker and bees. The cartoon also moves quickly, and both Tom and Jerry are a delight to watch.

Overall, a delightful Tom and Jerry cartoon, without it being either the best or worst. 9/10 Bethany Cox

Tee for Two (1945)

**** (out of 4)

One of the very best in the series has Tom on the golf course when he notices Jerry causing him some trouble. Soon the two are getting into all sorts of trouble as Tom tries to golf the perfect game but Jerry just won't let that happen. TEE FOR TWO is one of the funniest films in the series because there's just so much wacky violence that you can't help but laugh throughout. There are so many highlights here but one has to be the scenes where Tom upsets a large group of bees. Another terrific sequence deals with Tom getting his teeth knocked out. The animation is great as you'd expect but the golf course just gives the writers so much material and it's very creative.

Par for the course.

Tom is playing a not-very-relaxing round of golf (he's hacking up the fairway with his less than perfect swing) when Jerry decides to ruin the game even further—by pushing the ball back out of the hole when Tom finally manages to sink it. Tom gets his own back by using the mischievous mouse as his tee and mayhem ensues.

This cartoon contains the usual plethora of violent visual gags, with both cat and mouse receiving their fair share of pain. The majority of the jokes are pretty run-of-the-mill for a T&J caper, although the animators do attempt a couple of more surreal moments (such as the fruit machine tree), and throw in one wonderful moment where Tom gets a mouthful of bees!

Oh heck yeah

Warning: Spoilers
Tom and Jerry is my childhood favorite cartoon. It's still the best today, and Tee for Two is my absolute favorite short in the entire series. It's funny how amazingly golf pairs with the classic formula, so I may as well explain.

Tee for Two starts strong with its music piece perfectly capturing the energy of the rest of the cartoon, and it even leads into the first gag, Tom's crater-sized divot. He does get it out, where he meets Jerry in the hole he was shooting at. Jerry humiliates Tom, and then Tom hits him with a golf ball and forces the mouse to be his tee. What ensues is pure gold: the scene is perfectly used for gags that never get old, like the woodpecker egg Jerry uses to fool Tom and my favorite of them all, Tom trying to hit his ball between two skinny trees, only to be beheaded... then his body walks around like nothing happened! Classic stuff.

The music and animation are also superb as usual. The music especially stands out because golf is a quiet sport, but Scott Bradley captures the mood perfectly in spite of that.

Overall, Tee for Two is the gold standard of what you should expect from a Tom and Jerry cartoon. I won't be surprised if 30 years from now it's still my favorite. I'd give this 11 stars if it was an option.

Tom and Jerry go golfing
Horst_In_Translation19 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"Tee for Two" is an American cartoon from 1945, so this one is already over 70 years old, from the last year of WWII, and this one is another Hanna Barbera production by MGM and here we have of course another Tom and Jerry short film. No dogs or owners in here this time as Tom is humanized again playing golf despite being a cat, but when Jerry resides in the hole Tom wants to get the ball in, chaos ensues. And said chaos includes a little freshly-hatched bird who is far from a rookie though and a swarm of bees who all go up against Tom. There is no intention to eat in here as you would expect from a cat&mouse cartoon, another reference to humanization. Jerry is not too important in here as he really only fight through proxies most of the time against Tom. The golf ball eye-painting scene was fairly funny though I guess. Eventually Tom gets it almost too much here as he did not know he was hitting an egg and the bee attack scene is also almost a bit too violent. Poor cat, who at one point, the shot at the very beginning, is a completely unskilled player, but then shows master calass skills on other occasions. And Jerry's final shot shows he isn't too untalented either. All in all one of the earlier, but not earliest and one of the better, but not best Tom and Jerry cartoons. I give it a thumbs-up and recommend checking it out. A fun watch with nice attention to detail.

Tom tries to play a round of golf
Tweekums5 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
As this short opens we see what appears to be a golf course; it is hard to be sure though as somebody has taken out so many divots it looks more like an artillery range! That somebody is of course Tom. When he finally does get the ball to the hole it keeps bouncing out; at first he can't see why, it soon becomes apparent that it is because Jerry is at the bottom of it and he doesn't enjoy being disturbed. When Tom realises what is going on he grabs Jerry with the intention of using him as a tee! What follows is the usual stream of violent gags viewers expect from the duo. Jerry gets hit by the ball a couple of times and hammered into the ground but as always Tom who suffers the most; he gets his teeth knocked out, attacked by an irate woodpecker, stung by a swarm of bees and even blown up by an exploding golf ball.

This was a fairly standard Tom and Jerry short; plenty of violence and some good gags; I particularly liked the fully grown woodpecker hatching from an egg and attacking Tom and the introduction where we see just how bad Tom is at golf... although that doesn't explain how he can hit Jerry with a ball as he runs off! The animation is of a high standard and the jokes come thick and fast so if you don't like one it doesn't matter as there will be another one along in a matter of seconds. This might not be as good as some of their other sporting outings but it is still well worth watching and to my mind beats 'My Bunny Lies Over the Sea'; Bugs Bunny's golfing short.

Cats have long been recognized as the official mascot of . . .
pixrox130 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
. . . the Underworld--just think of epithets such as "Hell Cats"--and golf is widely regarded as The Devil's Game. TEE FOR TWO puts this pair of nefarious associations together, as a tomcat excavates colossal divots while racking up a score of 594 for one round of golf! Though the total destruction of the Country Club Links is not as tragic as "turfing" a Little League field would be, Tom's success in expanding his litter box seems to go wholly unpunished here. Doubtless one of the producers suffered a bad round, prompting the filming of this picture to savage the so-called Liar's Sport. This film is likely to be appreciated most by duffers who are already trekking down the Road to Perdition.
