Sex & Nudity

  • A man and woman kiss after meeting and dancing.
  • It is implied that a woman is a prostitute, but this can be missed by some viewers.
  • A few women with low neck lines in a restaurant

Violence & Gore

  • Two brothers get into a fistfight, but are said to do so "twenty times a day." They fight a second time in a later scene. No blood or gore.
  • Two soldiers are attacked by enemies, being stabbed and hit with the butt of rifles. One is later shown dead and the other is presumed to be captured and wounded.
  • Three island battles. Some blood is seen (in the colorized version of this film the blood is red, but in the black and white version it is black). Many explosions and gun fights, and many men are shot.
  • A Japanese troop is hit and stabbed several times by an American troop. No gore.
  • John Wayne and Forrest Tucker have a fist fight.
  • Wayne strikes a man on the cheek with the butt of his rifle.
  • A training sequence in which soldiers practice hand to hand combat.

  • The battle scenes are quite intense, and some may find them frightening. The many onscreen deaths are intense and somewhat frightening and realistic.
