A major disappointment!
CRAMBAM-214 February 2003
Those of you hoping to get real insight into the old Berlin will be as disappointed as I was after trying to watch this long and boring film! I even left before the end, something I rarely do, because I was fed up with watching the birds, the zoo animals and the children swimming, while getting no new information about a great city. I wanted to see the architecture before the massive destruction of WW2 and got very little of it. The film was shot in the '50s, so they could have contrasted the before and after periods of important monuments and buildings, but they failed to do this.

Vital glimpse of Pre-Hitler Berlin
mbanak23 February 2014
This documentary is stunning and mysterious. It appears to have been made before 1934. Everything looks so good. So right. If I were to judge from this film, early 1930's Germany had no reason to welcome a brute like Hitler.

This must have been made in some sweet spot in the early 30's, before the prosperity of the 1920's had given way to the worldwide depression.

As I view the film, I want to speak to the people, "Beware! Evil is ahead!".

I see no evidence of the "shame" or "unhappiness" attributed to pre-Hitler Germany. I have read that Berlin voters did not support Hitler's candidacy. Based on this film, this makes sense. They had little to complain about.
