Jazz musician Phil Moore was one of the first African-Americans to receive a screen credit as composer of a Hollywood film score for his imaginative contributions to this short. This was done at the insistence of the film's director, John Hubley.
Frankie's outburst during Nelly Bly's testimony originally went "It's a lie! She's no singer, she's a..." before the judge cuts her off. The executives at Columbia objected to the line "She's a..." because of its unspoken implications and ordered the line cut. This was the only instance of censorship on an UPA cartoon.
Included in the 3-disc DVD set "UPA: The Jolly Frolics Collection", released 15 March 2012 by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
Annette Warren, who sings the part of both Frankie and Nelly Bly, also provided the singing voices for Ava Gardner in Show Boat (1951) that same year and sang for Lucille Ball in both Fancy Pants (1950) and Sorrowful Jones (1949).
Annette Warren recorded this soundtrack the same year that she sang for Ava Gardner in MGM's lavish spectacle Show Boat (1951). Warren also sang for Lucille Ball in both Fancy Pants (1950) and Sorrowful Jones (1949) and for Iris Adrian in The Paleface (1948).
