Competent modernisation of Moliere's play
SMK-426 August 1999
A competent modernisation of Moliere's play (malade imaginaire) into 1950s Germany, this film stays perhaps a bit too faithful to its original source. Medicine has made some progress since Moliere's time and women's role in society is not the same either. Both facts should have forced the scriptwriters to divert from the original in certain places but alas they didn't dare.

The cast is very good though - Joe Stoeckel and Oskar Sima are always their money worth, and only the romantic male lead seems somewhat miscast.
