Marvin the Martian returns
Tweekums15 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This amusing Bugs Bunny cartoon sees the return of the still unnamed Marvin the Martian and his sidekick K-9 the green dog.

This time instead of trying to destroy the Earth Marvin is on a mission to land, capture an Earth creature and take it back to Mars. Of course the creature he picks is Bugs Bunny. At first Bugs thinks Marvin and K-9 are trick or treating but realises this can't be right when Marvin drastically enlarges Bug's rabbit hole with a ray-gun. Bugs tries to trick his way out of the situation in a couple of ways, including persuading Marvin that K-9 is planning a mutiny. Eventually he is captured using an Acme strait-jacket ejecting bazooka. Amazingly, for an Acme product, it works as advertised and Bug's is forced to use his wits to get K-9 to release him, the tables are soon turned and the two disgruntled Martians are trussed up and Bugs is trying to fly their saucer back to Earth.

I really enjoyed this although the ending is a little weak compared to the rest of the story. Marvin's voice has changed slightly here and he gets visible emotional when he is angry but this didn't make me like him or the cartoon any less.

Very funny.
Mightyzebra14 August 2008
This is one of quite a few cartoons with Bugs Bunny and Marvin the Martian - and a space dog called K-9 is included as well. This Looney Tunes episode is very funny, has reasonably good cartoon animation (Marvin's animation is very well done) and the plot is well done. The end is rather weird, so be prepared for it, it is slightly boring.

In this episode, Marvin the Martian has been sent to earth to capture an earth creature and bring it back to Mars. With his trusty dog K-9, Marvin sets out and soon finds the tracks of no other rabbit but Bugs Bunny! He greets them with treats, thinking they are trick or treaters in their costumes. Little does he realise they are preparing themselves to take this rabbit to Mars...

I recommend this episode to anyone who likes Bugs Bunny, Marvin the Martian and Looney Tunes in general. As far as the beginning and the middle of the episode are concerned, you are likely to like this. Enjoy "Hasty Hare"! :-)

The always prophetic Looney Tuners predict Spartan . . .
oscaralbert23 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
. . . Football Fortunes with THE HASTY HARE. Infringing upon Michigan State University's "Sparty" mascot trademark in the more lax days of copyright enforcement back in the 1900s, "Marvin Martian" is indistinguishable from the East Lansing Elf trolling the sidelines during most of the Spartan Home Game Defeats. Bugs Bunny tricks Marvin into leaving Earth empty-handed during the first part of HASTY HARE, foreshadowing how the Spartans would raise the hopes of Michigan Taxpayers by making the second-ever National Football Final Four. After their 128 - 0 defeat in January, 2016, the Spartan Gridders were forced to hitch-hike back to their Wolverine State, as some of their tax subsidies were withdrawn. When Marvin and his K - 9 sidekick suit up for a second go at Bugs, they wind up tangled in their own Acme Corp. rocket-propelled strait jackets. They cannot even evade the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, and a few of the more sluggish stars, as the Looney Tuners predict a string of five straight Spartan losses in the Fall of 2016 to such teams as the Universities of Indiana and Maryland.

Delightful Bugs vs. Marvin the Martian cartoon
TheLittleSongbird21 June 2010
I love Looney Tunes, I love Bugs Bunny and I love Marvin the Martian, so this was a sheer delight. If I had a minor quibble, it would be the ending wasn't as strong as the rest of the cartoon, but The Hasty Hare is still hugely enjoyable. The animation is simply terrific, particularly the colourful backgrounds and on Marvin. The music is rousing, the dialogue is razor sharp, the gags all work and are delivered thick and fast, the pacing is spot on and the story is a nice one to work from. Bugs is the star of the show, but Marvin is superb and the dog is funny and a relevant character too. To top it all, Mel Blanc's vocals are brilliant. Overall, delightful. 9.5/10 Bethany Cox

Marvin Attacks!
Chip_douglas19 January 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Did you ever notice Bugs is the only Loony Tunes star big enough to have his name above the title? Maybe that's why he always gets the best villains to outsmart. Marvin, commanding Flying Saucer X-2 is ordered by Martian HDQS to bring back one live Earth creature. But since even Martians buy supplies at Acme (like the Acme disintegrating pistol and the Strait-Jacket Ejecting Bazooka) there is little chance of succeeding. Even stranger, a Martian Trumpet sounds almost exactly like Bugs Bunny singing.

Soon the pointy eared Earth creature (Bugs, as if you would not have guessed) turns the tables by planting rumours of mutiny. Martian K-9 Anxious utters the one phrase that should appear in every good film: `What have I done?' (though he does so via a note). The best sequence is saved for last, as Bugs takes the control of the Flying Saucer and rearranges the entire known solar system. This has to be seen to be believed.

"Oh dear, now I suppose I shall have to use force."
utgard148 October 2015
Marvin the Martian comes to Earth and attempts to bring Bugs back to Mars with him. Doesn't work so well. Marvin's hilarious so you know you have to watch just for him. He has a little dog called K-9 that's also good for some laughs. Bugs is a hoot as usual. Brilliant voice work from Mel Blanc. Great music from Carl Stalling (and great use of Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse"). The animation is beautiful with rich colors and well-drawn characters and backgrounds. Love the outer space scenes. The gags and lines are funny. The climax of the short is wonderful. Another winner from Chuck Jones. Only question I have is why did they insist on using titles that made no mention or pun or anything of the Martian angle of the story? They did this in Marvin's first short, Haredevil Hare, and again here. It has no bearing on the quality of the cartoon just an odd thing I have noticed and wondered if there was some specific reason they refrained from mentioning the Martian aspect in the titles back then.

haste doesn't make waste here (or should I say that it doesn't make waste "hare"?)
lee_eisenberg1 January 2007
Part of what was so great about the classic Looney Tunes cartoons was their irreverence and how they weren't afraid to do anything that they wanted. In this case, Marvin the Martian has an assignment to bring back an earthling. Sure enough, he comes across Bugs Bunny, who warns of a mutiny on the part of Marvin's dog. After Marvin finally traps Bugs - by means of an Acme strait jacket-ejecting bazooka! - Bugs has more stuff planned for the voyage back to Mars. What I mean is, if you thought that it was a major change in the Solar System when they stripped Pluto of its planet status, then you ain't seen nothing yet! Yes, "The Hasty Hare" goes all out. How they buy Acme products in outer space is probably beyond most people, but the point here - I mean "hare" - is to have fun. And believe me, you definitely will. After all, a little space-out never hurt anyone.

Space bunny Warning: Spoilers
"The Hasty Hare" is a 7.5-minute cartoon from 1952, so this one will have its 65th anniversary next year. The star here is Bugs Bunny this time and he is not against Daffy, Elmer or Sam in here, but against the Martian, a fairly popular cartoon from the Warner Bros. franchise, who was not as frequent as some of the others though. I personally like the way he looks, but this character is one of the very few cases where I am not too big on Mel Blanc's voice acting. In my opinion, his approach does not fit the character. The Martian is a pretty simple guy carrying out orders for his boss in this little movie and despite his lack of intelligence and mostly thanks to his weaponry, he manages to get Bugs on board of the space ship, but of course in the end the bunny has the last laugh. Not the audience though. There were some fine moments with Bugs getting quickly on board when he sees the armed power of the Martian and the straight jacket scene was fun too, but as a whole it wasn't really entertaining. i give it a thumbs-down.

Bugs at his tricky best
bob the moo26 March 2004
Marvin the Martian is dispatched to Earth by General MC Squared to capture and return to Mars with a specimen of life from Earth. After much trickery, Marvin and K9 manage to get Bugs onto their spaceship and set out for Mars.

This cartoon starts out with the familiar opening of an alien craft coming to Earth to capture a specimen creature - it has been done several times in other cartoons, but it is not to the detriment of this cartoon. The alien here is Marvin with his sidekick K9 (a green dog) and the creature they pick is Bugs Bunny. The film starts really well and is great for the first half with Bugs and Marvin trading blows and Bugs being his typically tricky self. However, in the final stages it isn't quite as good and relies on other factors other than bugs for laughs - a mistake. The ending is weak which was a surprise as it started so well.

Marvin is good here, well animated and has some good dialogue. His dog K9 is also pretty funny even if it just looks like WB sidestepped Disney's legal challenges by simply painting their Pluto clone green! Bugs is the star of course and he works really well for the most part; it says a lot that the cartoon dips a bit when it takes the focus off him towards the end.

Overall this is an enjoyable cartoon but it performs best up front and begins to run out of steam in the final stages. Still worth watching but it needed a better conclusion that it got.
