Director Hans Müller once was assistant-director to Werner Hochbaum and this experience may well have helped to turn the not so surprising script into a minor, but nice, lively, well-paced and entertaining melodrama; Müller knows how to give the melodrama a certain cinametic style with his direction of the light touch. But he also shows that with "action" he is not at his best: the execution of the sequence with crash of the truck is only so-so.
Müller is also a good director of the cast. One may not agree with the rather narrow-minded typically 50's mores of some of the characters, due to the way how Müller gives precise attention to every character the cast makes the melodrama real, convincing and - very important - unsentimental. Even someone like Rudolf Prack, normally a boring actor, is acceptable as the male lead and he certainly is a very good type-cast. A couple of nice variety acts and songs add to the fun.
Aficionados of old trains and steam locomotives will have a special interest in this film.
