This was one of the many films of Jopie Heesters,that he did after the war.He plays a known ,in that country, Austrian music theater composer Franz Von Suppe.Another fellow performer appears in it too as his friend and actor Walter Muller,who showed up together in the Sugar Princess, 1951.Walter Muller's girl friend ,who is an actress and dancer of the theater Annie,played By Friedel Hardt.I have to be honest with you I compare this too with the American 1950 film Autobiography of Rudolph Valentino. There's a lot of fifties flair in this film That suppose to take place some where in the 1800's.like the Valentino Story it's not accurate it's tailored to Johannes personality.The real Suppe was bald headed ,with a beard and was fat.i alps recently recognized one of his composition to be internationally recognized,It was used in a Looney Toon cartoon ,I think ,with Elmer Fud. or was it Tom and Jerry?after I saw the movie I had to research the story since I did not under stand Austrian.Another composition was used in many comedy films as a back drop,Leichte Kavallei,the earlier, an overture from Ein Morgren Ein Mittag Und Ein Abend in Wein.Well more info this movie was not accurate at all.It did not have his series compositions also it did not show him as a singer too.It did have some good dance numbers ,with Friedel Hardt in them.This was more of a Heimat type film.It was still entertaining,Gretl Schorg,who also appeared in Germany's first Heimat film,appears once again with Walter Muller,but she plays Jopies first love of his life,helping him to achieve his career as a composer by appearing in his first operetta.Although it did have some series side,not much,when he finally got wealthy and successful,then he got board of Gretl and Start having an affair with the countess Coralie,played by Margit Saad.When the Kaiser shows up for his new opera and gives Suppe and medal of Honor,that when Jopie realizes that Gretl is his first love and drops Corralie.Gretl makes a surprise appearance in his opera.As I said this version of Suppes autobiography was rather sugary and melodramatic,but ,still entertaining.Eduard Von Barsody ,who directed Request concert in 1940, also directs this musical 12/14/13
