Paul Klinger: Peter Schroeder

Quotes

  • Peter Schroeder : I don't like you at all lately. Maybe you should go see a doctor and he could prescribe you something. You know, for strength. My mother always got malt extract.

Therese Forster : I have seen a doctor.

Peter Schroeder : What, you have seen a doctor? Why? Is something wrong?

Therese Forster : No, it's nothing.

Peter Schroeder : Come on, don't fool me. Something is wrong there. One does not go to see a doctor for no reason. Does anything hurt, Therese?

Therese Forster : [pats his hand]  Don't worry. I am absolutely healthy.

Peter Schroeder : [hurt]  Alright, if you don't want to tell me, if you don't trust me, I can't force you. I thought I'm your friend.

Therese Forster : But Peter... I didn't know you're so dumb. Why does a healthy woman go see a doctor?

  • Peter Schroeder : So... and does Willy already know?

Therese Forster : No. By the way, he hasn't changed at all.

Peter Schroeder : Ah. Well, neither did you, Therese.

Therese Forster : What do you mean?

Peter Schroeder : Well. You aren't none the wiser.

    [pause]

Peter Schroeder : Well, maybe it was a good thing that he arrived before our wedding.

Therese Forster : You are so enigmatic today. I don't understand you at all.

Peter Schroeder : Then think about it, Therese.

  • Evchen Forster : Say, Uncle Peter, do you think mommy and daddy will marry again?

Peter Schroeder : How am I supposed to know that, Evchen? Well, for you it would be nice if you had a real father again, wouldn't it?

Evchen Forster : Yes, of course. It's just that... Barbara says that it won't go well with all of us together.

Peter Schroeder : Come on, Evchen, let's play chess. It's your turn. Those are things you understand nothing about.

Evchen Forster : Yeah, you say so. I am really not that small any more as you all pretend. I just want to know what you would do then.

Peter Schroeder : Me? But that is not important.

Evchen Forster : Yes, for you maybe.

Peter Schroeder : Evchen, if your mother chooses your father, she doesn't need me any more. And you won't need me any more, either.

Evchen Forster : That's not true, Uncle Peter. And you know that exactly. I love you.

Peter Schroeder : Yes, Evchen. But you love your father, too.

Evchen Forster : Yes, but so differently. I hardly know him. Yes, he is magnificent but... more like... an interesting uncle. You know, you... you I love... well... like a father.

Peter Schroeder : [caresses her cheek]  Evchen, that's the most beautiful thing you could say to me. I'd like to thank you for that. But look, it's not about you, it's all about mommy. The main thing is that mommy is happy.

Evchen Forster : But we all were happy. You never fought. And you never ran away. And you love her, don't you?

Peter Schroeder : Yes, I do, heaven only knows.

Evchen Forster : [desperate]  Then do something!

Peter Schroeder : Evchen, you don't have a say in this. I can't do anything. Now come on, let's play, it's your turn.

Evchen Forster : Wait a moment, I'll get a glass of raspberry juice.
