Director, scriptwriter and star Luis Trenker plays a man prone to violent outbursts who leaves his wife and children behind when he is suspected of murdering his brother. So he shaves off his evil looking moustache and flees into the mountains. On the train he immediately finds a new love interest and once in der Dolemieten he becomes a beloved mountain guide and swiftly settles into his new life. But even without the facial hair, he still looked pretty untrustworthy to me, let alone as a romantic lead.
Naturally, his wanted poster catches up with him (since he did not even change his name). The soundtrack is unbelievably loud and dramatic, especially during some 'exciting' mountain high jinx. So he returns home, just in time to see the murder case resolved neatly by a very contrived plot twist. We finally catch up with his by now forgotten wife and it turns out she has a suitor too, but of course women in films are not allowed the same liberties as men when it comes to infidelity.
