Don't mix crime and humor!
mart-451 April 2007
Some stocks and bonds have gone missing, and soon there is a murder. Everyghing points to an innocent antique dealer, who is anxious to prove to the world (and the girl who started the whole mix up) that he is a honest man. Sounds interesting? Isn't. Perhaps, dealt seriously, the story could have been exciting. What we get is a "crime comedy", even though there are no actual laughs anywhere. Johannes Heesters, energetic and handsome as always, doesn't get to show his fine tenor voice. We do get one song, performed by twice (!) Miss Austria Nadja Tiller, who is oozing so heavy sexuality that it's almost embarrassing. Since nothing of immediate interest happens (if you're not morbidly interested in missing bonds or the missing body of an unsympathetic elderly small time crook) and since the evildoers are obvious from the very beginning (in fact no effort is being made to divert attention from them), one tends to lose interest pretty soon into the picture. There's a heavy use of very obvious back screen projection, which really isn't up to 1954 standards. For fans of Heesters or Tiller; others might find it a bit boring.
