The Gale Storm Show - Oh, Susannah
mcannady114 May 2017
I watched this show in the late 50's when I was starting school. In first grade I developed a love for all of the characters. My favorite show of all time is now My Little Margie, but Gale Storm Show is a close second. The people, the classy acts and Gale's wonderful singing voice really made it superior.

In recent years, in 2005, I discovered Gale was going to be at a movie seminar that featured 50's and 60's greats. My husband brought me and after nearly 50 years, I finally met my idol! Jane Russell, Ed Byrnes, Noel Niell and Kathy Garver were some of the other greats, but Gale was the one I wanted to meet especially. I had been so inspired by her great personality and timeless quality. What a marvelous experience! After that, I joined the Gale Storm Appreciation Society and discovered there were many people who still felt the same.

Gale called me and I spoke to her often on the phone. We became great friends and she sent me a copy of her beautiful music CD on my birthday! What a wonderful and generous lady! When I was ill and having health problems in 2007 she was so kind and sympathetic. I was invited to the 50th anniversary of Oh, Susannah, a party that was to be held at Gale's home. Sadly, she was not well, and the party was cancelled.

WE lost her in 2009, and I will never forget how wonderful it was to meet her, and also the other wonderful TV shows of the 50's and 60's. It was a great time to grow up in.

Today I watch the show often. A very generous person, the fan club vice president, made me a copy of the episodes I was missing of the programs. What a treat! So today it is like the time never passed. My big sister and I always find time to watch Oh, Susannah or My Little Margie. Even my sons and daughter enjoy Margie once in awhile.

Gale Storm

I think The Gale Storm show was in repeats when I got to see it. I was born in 1953 and I remember seeing it and My Little Margie. I adored the female characters in both, but I was just 7 years old as I recall. Maybe I saw some at 6. Anyway, I loved the shows, but I don't recall much about them. So, I didn't know Gale Storm had anything to do with ships. Dear memories of youth. Ann Sothern was another.

Way better than "My Little Margie"

My Husband has a sick addiction to "My Little Margie". He has made me buy him the two box sets of the show AND made me watch them too. When he mentioned that Gale Storm had a second show called "Oh Susannah!", I thought not more crap. It was his birthday so I ordered him the only two available videos of the show(also titled "The Gale Storm Show").

We got them in the mail and I was pleasantly surprised. It has a cute storyline. Susannah Pomeroy(Ms Storm) is a cruise director on a ship that travels around the world. Stopping at many different ports means many new adventures and interesting characters every show. Of course there are some funny characters aboard including silent film star Zazu Pitts as Nugie, Susannah's close friend.

Unlike "My Little Margie", this show included song and dance numbers to take advantage Ms Storm's hit recording career. She's pretty good too. If you ever get the chance to see this show, watch it and enjoy what television had to offer in it's Golden Age.

Gale Storm is well-known for her "My Little Margie" series, but she even topped that with her performances in "The Gale Storm Show (Oh Susanna)." "The Gale Storm Show" featured her beautiful singing voice in many of the episodes, and her suppor ting cast was fantastic!

Gale Storm and the cast make this a classic show.

Warning: Spoilers
I recently discovered Gale Storm a few years ago. I have tried to collect her "My Little Margie" series and "The Gale Storm Show: Oh! Susanna". I was able to find all 122 My Little Margie episodes and 86 of 122 Oh! Susanna episodes. Gale Storm is so underrated as comedy star. She had 2 hit series back to back. Only Lucille Ball did better. I have to give a slight edge to My Little Margie. That show was total screwball comedy. It went back and forth like 10 times before the show ended. There was a recurring cast of 6 people. With Oh! Susanna there is a core cast of 4 people. This to me is a toned down version of My Little Margie. It's not a screwball. It's more of a regular comedy. The cast is great. Gale Storm and Zasu Pitts were made for each other. They have perfect chemistry. Roy Roberts who plays the Captain has to constantly keep them out of trouble. And James Farfax appeared in the first three seasons, helps out Gale and Zasu when they get in trouble. I hope both series get an official release. AS I write this, only season 1 of My Little Margie has been released by Reel Vault. I did contact them and they told me they would be trying to raise the money to release the rest of the series. I hope it happens. Oh! Susanna has a best of release of 20 episodes released. It's sad that two great shows have not been fully released on DVD or Blu Ray.
