Sex & Nudity

  • There is some kissing. In one scene Millie and Burt kiss on the beach in the style of "From Here To Eternity".
  • A newly-married couple kiss as the husband tries to leave for work and while the woman is still in bed, possibly naked.

Violence & Gore

  • Millie is beaten by Burt after he wrongly assumes that she is on the side of his father. She is slapped around the face twice and has her hand crushed under a typewriter. In the next scene, she has a black eye, some other bruises, and a bandage around her hand. The bandages and bruises disappear in subsequent scenes as she heals.
  • A young man slaps his older wife in the face when he accused her of being in league with his father and ex-wife. He then picks up her typewriter and crushes her hand.

Profanity

  • Millie (Joan Crawford) goes after her husband's ex-wife and father and yells at them. She calls his ex-wife a conniving tramp and a slut. The word hell is also mentioned.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There is an offhand comment about marijuana, or "tea," an old slang term for marijuana.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • It is implied that one character's ex-wife has taken up with his father, and the reason why that character has schizophrenia is because of one night where he walked in on his ex-wife and his father copulating. Nothing is shown, it is all implied.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Burt eventually gets sent to an insane asylum (because he has schizophrenia) by Millie in the hopes that he will go back to "normal". His treatment involves being drugged up and electroshock therapy, elements which may be considered dated and might upset younger/more sensitive viewers.
