Quotes

  • Steve Hollis : The public's going in for sounds, Georgie. They want to hear small groups, vocalists, novelty combos.

  • Steve Hollis : You listen to me, the only thing that stayed up-to-date in this band of your's is your watch.

  • Steve Hollis : Why don't you get wise to yourself, Georgie? Take a look at the figures on record sales and then look at the size of the crowds you've been drawing. Maybe I should book you into a schoolhouse during a fire drill. You might be able to clear 'em out fast.

  • Steve Hollis : Do we leave in the morning?

Corny LaSalle : Ready at eight! Soon as I put on my traveling clothes and LuLu Bell here

    [referring to to his bass]

Corny LaSalle : puts on her G-string.

  • Steve Hollis : According to the map and it's been right the past three days, we should hit a little town called Strawberry Springs in time to stay over for the night. Its sort of a short cut.

Corny LaSalle : Oh. Sounds good enough to eat.

    Steve Hollis : What does?

Corny LaSalle : Strawberry short cut.

Steve Hollis : Oh, Corny, go back to sleep, will ya.

  • Steve Hollis : Say, Pop, where's everybody goin'?

Motel Operator : The youngins'? This is Saturday night, neighbor. Youngins' wouldn't miss their dance at the Meetin' Hall.

Steve Hollis : You mean they're all going to a dance?

Motel Operator : This is Saturday night.

  • Corny LaSalle : It's probably a dance for squares.

    Steve Hollis : Square dance?

Corny LaSalle : That's what I said. They've probably been doin' that kinda stuff up here for the last 100 years.

  • Steve Hollis : Corny, how long has it been since you've seen a dancehall jump like that?

Corny LaSalle : About three years ago at Roseland - when that flea circus act got loose.

  • Corny LaSalle : What is that outfit playin' up there?

Steve Hollis : I don't know. It isn't boogie. It isn't jive and it isn't swing. It's kinda all of 'em.

  • Steve Hollis : Say, pardon me friend, could you tell me what the name of that band is?

Boy Dancer #1 : Later, man, later. I'm gone, now. I don't dig nothin'!

  • Steve Hollis : Miss, pardon me, do you know the name of that orchestra that's playing?

Girl Dancer #2 : Crazy, man! Crazy!

  • Bill Haley : Are you serious? You mean you've never heard of Bill Haley and the Comets?

Steve Hollis : Well, I - I been kinda sick. I don't get out much.

Bill Haley : Well, stick around alligator, Rock will cure anything you have.

  • Steve Hollis : Say friend, you back in this world yet?

Boy Dancer #1 : Descending, Daddy-O. Comin' in on a cloud.

  • Steve Hollis : Leave it to a woman to make all the trouble

  • Steve Hollis : Business is business. Corny, I'm so sure about that Haley bunch and that girl. If I could just get them signed to a contract and promote them right, we got a sensation on our hands.

Corny LaSalle : You want to take it from old Cornball? With the face and the figure on that Lisa doll, huh, she's probably been promoted by experts!

Steve Hollis : Oh, I'm not talkin' about that kind of pro- Hey, maybe I am. Sure! Sure, a romance, Corny. That way I may be able to soften her up into makin' a deal.

Corny LaSalle : Hey, now, wait a minute. These farmers up here have shotguns.

Steve Hollis : Get off of it. She's no farmer's daughter. You heard her say so herself. Her father owns the motel.

Corny LaSalle : In that case, he probably has two shotguns!

  • Steve Hollis : I was wondering how you'd look in a bathing suit.

Lisa Johns : I bet you were.

Steve Hollis : I must have my imagination overhauled. You even look better than what I had dreamed up.

  • Lisa Johns : Smell the strawberries? They grow wild around here.

Steve Hollis : You come here often?

Lisa Johns : Often as I can.

Steve Hollis : That must be what makes them wild.

  • Lisa Johns : Men's imaginations are always faster than they are.

Steve Hollis : Well, what do you mean by that?

Lisa Johns : You're leading up to the point when you think you can kiss me.

  • Lisa Johns : I think I'm scared. There's a lot of world outside of Strawberry Springs.

Steve Hollis : Ah, don't worry, honey. Why, the public will dig you the most.

  • Steve Hollis : Remember what Christopher Columbus once said: the world is no square.

  • Corinne Talbot : Well, my pet, I hope you haven't forgotten your mambo.

Steve Hollis : No. It's a little bit like swimming. You throw a man in the water, he'll swim. He doesn't want to drown, you know.

  • Steve Hollis : This Lisa's a doll, you know. Looks great. Young. Fresh. Sparkles! She can't miss.

  • Steve Hollis : It takes a great dance team to demonstrate rock-n-roll. The young folks all over the country want to see how it's done, so they can do it too.

  • Corny LaSalle : Are you going to admit that a dame like Corinne beat ya?

Steve Hollis : Well, look, I'm perfectly willing to keep trying, if you want it that way.

    Corny LaSalle : Crazy, man!

Jimmy Johns : He's stayin'! Give me some skin! Yeah!

  • Steve Hollis : How do you like that, even the radio is singin' the blues. They make a fortune singin' about trouble, we spend a fortune getting into it.

Corny LaSalle : In short, we spent our roll on rock-n-roll.

  • Corinne Talbot : What's your big idea?

    Steve Hollis : A rock-n-roll jamboree.

    Corinne Talbot : Keep going!

Steve Hollis : Now, for weeks I've had other bands and vocal groups making up rock-n-roll arrangements. Now, as I see it, we take a bunch of these good acts, put them all together into one big show, and we'll give them a night of jive they've never seen before. Now, to get the movement going coast to coast, I think I can talk one of the big networks into televising us on a national hook-up.

Corinne Talbot : Son, you've hit the jackpot!
