Que viva Mexico!

In "escucha mi cancion" ,Joselito was in search of his mom.In "Joselito y Pulgarcito" ,he 's in search of his dad who left a long time ago for the broader horizons of America (Mexico to be precise).

Religion which was almost absent in the previous flick is back with a vengeance here.Virgin Mary is Our Mother ,so let's say a little prayer. There's also a (shall we cry or shall we laugh?) funeral for a gold fish ,Frederico : there's only the backbone left.An idea borrowed from Clément 's "Jeux Interdits" (1952)"Let his soul join my mum's one in Heaven!" Joselito says.

The first film when Joselito teams up with another brat (Pulgarcito=Tom Thumb). The ending, although a bit less cruel and less reactionary heralds that of the follow-up "Los Dos Gosfillos " ;its moral is simplistic: a Mexican boy cannot live in Spain (and vice versa?)so ,says Pulgarcito,"I 've got to stay in my homeland" .An ending which would appeal to the current European far right leaders.Grisly though this was,the Joselito saga was to sink lower for the next effort "los dos Gosfillos" where the ending was horrible.
