- Late one evening, a prison van transporting criminals is ambushed on an isolated and dangerous stretch of road, a sniper who is able to kill two of the prisoners, Fuyukichi Tatsuma and Ryuta Komine, a thug who murdered a gangster and a punk who seduced young female runaways into prostitution, respectively. With the sniper able to escape, middle-aged Daijirô Tamon, the guard in the van, is held responsible for allowing the ambush to happen and is given a six month suspension. Treating the suspension like a vacation, Tamon, solely to satisfy his own curiosity, goes on a mission to discover why anyone would have wanted to ambush the van, especially if it was solely for the two victims. Besides the known friends and associates of the two, who else Tamon wants to look into is Gorô Kashima, another prisoner in the van who was released on bail the following day, the bail paid before the sniper attack. What Tamon discovers is that Gorô has a tie to at least one of the victims. This discovery brings the Hamaju Talent Agency, which sexually commodifies young women including for prostitution, into his sights. It is temporarily being operated by Yûko Hamajima with no one else able to do it in light of her father, who normally operates it, being in the hospital. She surprises Tamon in being a seemingly refined young woman, not the lowlife he expected. All roads from Hamaju, Gorô, Fuyukichi and Ryuta eventually lead to Tamon believing someone named Aki - Akiba in full - being behind the ambush, "he" who could be a number of people including a "she", namely Yûko with who Tamon, regardless, has made a human connection.—Huggo
