Sex & Nudity

  • Significant differences in nudity and sexuality between theatrical and director's cuts.
  • Though there is the implication--perhaps somewhat more than an implication--that many people (unmarried or married but never to each other) have sex throughout the movie, there are no actual sex scenes, and the only nudity is a shot of a woman breastfeeding a baby.

Violence & Gore

  • There are a few sequences involving injury to animals. A horse is spurred to the point of bleeding. Cocks are shoved at each other to begin a fight.
  • There are also several mostly bloodless fight sequences. One man throws a cup at another and hits him in the head drawing blood. In one sword fight, a man is stabbed and presumed dead.
  • There is a hanging.

Profanity

  • Is "whore" or "bastard" vulgar enough to bear mention?

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • People drink quite frequently and quite a lot in this movie. There are quite a few scenes of drunkenness.
  • A lady smokes a pipe in one scene, and a man sniffs snuff.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There are a few suspenseful and exciting scenes, but they probably aren't "intense."
