The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • In the prologue, Lucy Harbin murders her husband and his lover with an axe. She approaches them while they sleep, and then brutalizes them with the weapon, striking them repeatedly. We see her chop off her husband's head in silhouette.
  • Lucy's doctor is bent down beside a chopping block when the killer attacks him with an axe. The murder occurs offscreen, but we hear the impact of the axe making contact with the doctor as he hollers out.
  • Krause, the farmhand, is decapitated. We see him leaning over an opened icebox, and the axe coming down, separating his head from his body. Quick, and not particularly realistic looking, but graphic.
  • Michael's father bends over to get a pair of shoes from his closet and the killer brings an axe down on top of him. We see the axe brought down and hear his startled scream before he is murdered.
  • Lucy awakes to find the severed heads of her husband and his lover in bed with her. She screams in horror. We later discover that the heads were fake, but they are still gruesome looking with rolled back eyes and some blood.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Lucy is emotionally manipulated into believing that she is insane. This results in several sequences of psychological terror where the true villain gaslights Lucy using fake props, recordings, and other means of deception. Lucy experiences extreme emotional distress during these scenes.
  • The true identity of the killer as Lucy's daughter may be shocking or emotionally upsetting to audiences. The reveal is followed by a disturbing scene of the daughter behaving violently and erratically. Lucy weeps in obvious dismay.
  • Lucy awakes to find two severed heads in her bed. She screams and runs from the room. This scene is played as a "jump scare", with the sudden appearance of the gruesome looking heads.
  • Michael's mother is attacked by the killer, who appears suddenly in a bizarre looking mask and wig meant to make them resemble Lucy. The real Lucy arrives, saving Michael's mother. She is momentarily startled by the eerie appearance of the killer, who throws their axe at Lucy (it misses, hitting a doorframe), before fleeing.
  • The killer's bizarre disguise, meant to resemble Lucy, is creepy looking. It includes a wig, dress, and mask with a strange, uncanny resemblance to Lucy's face.
