Actually not that bad
TheLittleSongbird21 June 2010
I wouldn't dare call this the best Tom and Jerry cartoon because it isn't, but the worst? No I think not. The animation isn't brilliant as Tom looks odd, but it has been worse, as some of the backgrounds were surprisingly nice. The cartoon at only 6 minutes or so is too short, consequently the latter half of The A-Tom-inable Snowman is rather rushed. The score is good and there are some amusing gags, especially when Tom tricks the dog to get Jerry. The story is decent too, even if the title holds no major surprises.

Overall, I don't think it is as bad as the rating suggests. The best Tom and Jerry cartoon? No. But the worst? Definitely not, Swicthin' Kitten and Carmen Get It! were much worse. 7/10 Bethany Cox

There had better be a yeti

Despite the promising title, this cartoon does not see Tom and Jerry encounter the mythical abominable snowman. Instead, it has the cat and mouse doing their usual predictable chase routine in a snowy setting, with the addition of a St.Bernard dog on hand to thaw Tom out with some brandy whenever he comes a cropper.

The third T&J episode to be directed by Abe Levitow, The A-Tom-inable Snowman skates dangerously close to Gene Deitch levels of cruddiness: the drawing is scrappy, the jokes are extremely poor and the timing is terrible. After much mundanity, the cartoon suddenly switches to a tropical locale for a baffling finish, Tom getting drunk on brandy for a third time (it wasn't funny the first two times!).

The Warner Bros. crew of saboteurs . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . continues to kill off the derivative copycat poorly-drawn Tom & Jerry franchise with Quality. By providing the feckless Tom Cat and jerk Jerry rodent with the verve, vitality and kick they were never given, endowed with or bestowed upon by villainous hacks Joe & Bill during their initial 114 episodes, the Warner bunch know that they are dooming the inferior 114--despite their haul of gelded statuettes in a series of scandalous rigged elections--to a well-deserved oblivion. You do not need to take my word for that. The globe's top authority on everything--Wikipedia--provides a detailed spread of information with a separate and elaborate entry for each and every Warner infiltrator Tom & Jerry episode, while totally ignoring more than 90% of those fraudulent scam cartoons churned out by Joe and Bill. Along-came-Jones and his squad of hard-pressed revisionists had the last, best and final words--and pictures--concerning Tom & Jerry.

Warning: Spoilers
. . . have their review actually posted IF their rating is within two points of the rabble's consensus. Back in the 1900's, before Evil Bots were tapped to squelch American's rights to Free Speech as guaranteed in the addendum before our most beloved Constitutional addition, people were not required to adhere to mindless Group-Think to express an opinion here. For instance, reviewers could say that this SNOWMAN cartoon constituted a big improvement upon the scribble doodlers who foisted the initial five score, a baker's dozen and one Tom & Jerry episodes off upon the world. What is it about such a sentence that gets one hushed up, quieted, shushed and totally stymied? Could it be the word "scribble?" Perhaps it's the artistic term "doodle?" Or maybe the Evil Bots hate the number "114," and we will never know the reason why. If that's the case, even this review may never see the light of day.
