- After the phenomenal success of the TV series in Germany, a 96 minutes short version was edited for theatrical release in 1972. It featured basically only action moments of the much longer TV version and was badly received by German critics and audiences.
- The Romanian TV series is edited differently and features sometimes alternative and additional scenes. It was shown in 2 parts, not in 4 parts like in Germany. The famous 'potato' scene is missing. The voice-over is different. The film music includes additional compositions by the original composer Hans Posegga and new compositions by Romanian composer Tiberiu Olah.
- In 1973 East Germany's DEFA created another theatrical version based on the 2-part Romanian edit. This DDR version was shown in 2 short parts (78 min. and 73 min.) and differs in content from the German TV and cinema versions and the Romanian TV version. Since the Romanian TV version had to be dubbed, this is a different German language version than the West-German one. The character Wolf Larson for example appears much more brutal than in all the other versions.
