Sex & Nudity

  • Male upper body nudity, female full nudity, plus a female wears thin underwear that is completely transparent when wet. Attitudes to sex are earthy throughout. The title character goes from relationship to relationship, including with her uncle, and there are vague references to her time in Paris.

Violence & Gore

  • A live pig is transformed into a dead one. It is bled and gutted on screen. A live bat us nailed to a door, although we do not see the nails pierce its wings.
  • An adult character with a significant learning disability is hit to the head.
  • Two characters are killed by drowning. A man has his head burst open with a stick - blood seen in his hair. Gendarmes arrest and beat up a prisoner - blood on his face. Threats of death and violence.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Much action takes place in an inn. Characters drink beer, wine and locally-distilled spirit and become drunk, although not to the point of incapacity. Some pipe smoking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • An adult character with a significant learning disability seems to spend all his time confined to a handcart and is struck across the head at one point. A pig butchered; a bat nailed to a door. A prisoner is mistreated and badly beaten.
