"Blau blüht der Enzian" is a West German 85-minute comedy from 1973, so this one has its 45th anniversary this year and it was written and directed by the Austrian pairing of Antel and Nachmann, who ware today certainly more known for their contributions to German trash cinema and not for their 1 or 2 quality movies. And this one here certainly does not fall into the latter category either, which becomes fairly obvious by the inclusions of Richter, Kraus, Speidel, Hehn and maybe Arent too. What you should expect here is another comedy quality-wise on the level of the Lümmel movies with the actors and characters having slightly aged oout of the boyhood years. Random music inclusions include Bata Illic, Jürgen Marcus, Drafi Deutscher and of course Heino, who was around the age of 35 back then and turns 80 this year. The name of the film also comes from his trademark songs, one of his trademark songs I should say instead with the Haselnuss around too. But yeah, the "Enzian" references are really minimal and it seems they realized that themselves and included another one near the end with the "enzian cup". Enzian is gentian by the way. But there is nothing that really justifies the title. Still this song as well as the music in general are still among the better components of the film as some of the songs are catchy, but that doesn't mean this aspect was good, just that honestly the story and the characters and especially the really horrible attempts at constant comedy were really really bad, so bad that I almost give this one a one star out of five only. But eventually, it is not a complete failure also thanks to the music I guess. But there is still really no reason why you wouldn't just want to listen to the record or check out some old Heino concert footage instead of seeing this one we have here. Gently-speaking, it was not a good watch and my suggestion is to skip it. Even the snow landscapes and cinematography were really underwhelming. As was everything else about the film, especially the slightly more dramatic plot inclusions. Don't watch.
