Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman are absolutely incredible on their own but when they come together, they are a force to reckon with. The two have worked together in Unforgiven (1992), Million Dollar Baby (2004), and Invictus (2009). While Clint Eastwood has both directed and starred in the first two films, he only served as the director of Invictus.

A sports biography, Invictus follows the story of the 1995 Rugby World Cup and how President Nelson Mandela decided to unite his people through it. Morgan Freeman played the role of the President and Matt Damon played Francois Pienaar, the captain of the South African rugby team, Springboks. Years after the film’s release, Morgan Freeman revealed that he had to beg Clint Eastwood to direct the film.

Diljit Dosanjh Plays Amar Singh Chamkila In His Biopic Directed By Imtiaz Ali ( Photo Credit – YouTube; Instagram )
Amar Singh Chamkila is a name that might have been alien a few weeks back but is now known to most of us, thanks to Imtiaz Ali, who directed a biopic of the late Punjabi singer. Diljit Dosanjh played Chamkila in the film, and Parineeti Chopra played his wife.
Now, for the unversed, Chamkila was criticized a lot for his outrageous lyrics that involved commentaries about illicit relationships, objectifying women, and talking about their fantasies in general.
Some of the most lewd songs by Amar Singh Chamkila talked about women in particular and their assets suggestively. A couplet in the song Baapu saada Gum ho gaya says, “Teri maa di talashi lehni ni bapu sada gum ho gaya.”

The BET Awards ceremony went without a host for its performance-heavy telecast Sunday on BET from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Coco Jones, Burna Boy, Latto and Beyoncé Knowles were among the artists who scored wins at this year’s celebration of music, film, television and sports.
This year’s awards show packed the broadcast with music performances honoring the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, along with highlighting the year’s top talent. Only a fraction of the awards were announced during the live show.
Performer Lil Uzi Bert opened the show alongside hip-hop legends The Sugarhill Gang, who performed their hit “Rapper’s Delight.” Other highlights included tributes to Tupac Shakur and Biz Markie, along with Migos collaborators Quavo and Offset reuniting onstage to pay tribute to their late bandmate Takeoff (who died in November). Warren G. performed “Regulate” and Tyga went back to his hit song “Rack City.

More than the many dates or inappropriate brunch talks, “Sex and the City” has always been known for one thing: its fashion. That certainly carries over to its long-in-the-making sequel series “And Just Like That,” which premiered its first episode of Season 2 Thursday.
Centered on Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie and co. getting ready to attend the Met Gala, there’s a throwback fashion moment in Episode 1 that will make longtime fans of the franchise catch their breath: the Vivienne Westwood wedding dress.
“In one second, that showed you that Carrie is trying to move forward in her life,” costume designer Molly Rogers told TheWrap, nodding to the stagnancy she felt in Season 1 after Big’s death.
The moment comes after the episode shows Carrie being sewn into a poorly made garment from Jackie’s (Bobby Lee) wife for the gala. At the very last moment, Carrie concedes that the...

Chris Brown reportedly threw a tantrum after losing out on the Best R&b Album Grammy to pianist Robert Glasper.
The ceremony was held at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles on Sunday (5 February), with Trevor Noah returning to host the show for the third consecutive year.
Brown, 33, was nominated in the R&b category for his 10th studio album Breezy, featuring collaborations with Jack Harlow, H.E.R., and Anderson. Paak.
However, Glasper ultimately won the prize for his record Black Radio III.
Brown reportedly reacted to losing the award in a series of since-deleted Instagram Stories.
“Who the f*** is Robert Glasper,” he allegedly wrote, as seen in screenshots posted to Twitter by HipHopDX.
“Ima keep kicking y’all a** respectfully,” Brown reportedly added.
“I gotta get my skills up...Ima start playing the harmonica,” the rapper apparently also said, sharing a photoshopped picture of himself playing the instrument.

Chris Brown was not happy with the outcome of the 2023 Grammys.
The rapper had his sights on winning the Best R&b Album category, where he went home without the win.
He was up against some stiff competition, including Mary J. Blige, Luck Daye, Pj Morton and Robert Glasper.
Glasper was eventually announced as the category’s victor, much to Brown’s anger.

Few years are as packed for the R&b categories at the Grammys as this one. With releases from some of the top artists in the genre and in music in general, as well as a lot of Grammy darlings back in the mix, it seems like many artists will truly just be lucky to net a nom. Let’s take a look at some of the top contenders this year.
We can’t talk about R&b without first talking about Queen Bey. This year Beyoncé could compete in Best Progressive R&b Album with her newest release, “Renaissance.” The album is acclaimed and will easily be the front-runner if it is submitted in R&b (it might instead be slotted in pop). As for song choices, Beyoncé could go for the groovy “Cuff It” or the urban-leaning “Church Girl” for Best R&b Performance, while “Plastic Off The...

Though New York moviegoing is (sort of) getting back to normal, we’ve only now filled one of the biggest spots: Metrograph have announced a return of their theater and commissary on October 1, while Metrograph At Home programming will continue through their site and Metrograph TV app.
The lineup, currently handled by new programmer-at-large Nellie Killian, doesn’t seem to have missed a step: there’s the cool factor of Żuławski’s Possession restored in 4K, the auteurist cred of a four-film Eastwood series, new releases like Bulletproof and Labyrinth of Cinema, the high art of an Amos Vogel tribute—precisely what we’ve missed for, God help us, 18 months.
Health and safety guidelines can be found here, and a highlight of October programming below.

Mike White returns to HBO on July 11, eight years after the end of his brilliant “Enlightened,” with the tropical dramedy “The White Lotus,” an engaging 6-episode series that has a great cast, smart dialogue, and just enough laughs, even if it feels a little unable to transcend its set-ups every now and then. Perhaps more damagingly for its potential to reach a larger audience, it asks people to spend a great deal of time with a group of relatively unlikable people (one of whom may be the most toxically abrasive person on TV this year).

There’s one person who has been in more Marvel Cinematic Universe movies than anyone else — late Stan Lee, the comic book legend who co-created Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, the X-Men and the Incredible Hulk. For decades he’s bee a staple in Marvel movies, making cameo appearances in just about all of them, both inside the McU and outside it.
Lee hasn’t popped up in every single Marvel movie — he skipped, for example, both “Punisher” movies and “Elektra,” to name a couple — but for the most part you could expect to see him when you head to the theater to check out the newest Marvel flick. He was such a staple of these things that pretty much everyone recognized him when he came on screen.

With “Spider-Man: Far From Home” opening in theaters, the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga has arrived.
If “Avengers: Endgame” was the culmination of the first decade of the McU, then “Far From Home” is the post-script. The final piece of the story before the biggest movie franchise in the world starts in on a new era without Iron Man or Captain America, the two stalwarts that had been the heart of this whole thing.
As such, we know pretty much nothing about what’s next for the McU after “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” We know there’s a “Black Widow” movie coming but we don’t know what that means since that character is dead. We know that an “Eternals” film is coming at some point but have no idea how it will figure into things. We know that all the remaining living superheroes will return in some capacity.

After a June marked by several underperforming sequels, Sony/Marvel Studios’ “Spider-Man: Far From Home” will kick off a fiscal quarter loaded with some of the most anticipated blockbusters of the year — and a July that is crucial for Sony.
Two years ago, Sony had one of its best box office months in recent years with “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” the product of a deal between the studio and Disney to add Peter Parker to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thus Sony was able to enjoy a slice of Marvel-mania to the tune of an $880 million global run for “Homecoming,” which also led to two more hit, non-McU Spidey films in 2018 with “Venom” and the Oscar-winning “Into the Spider-Verse.”
On top of that, Sony had another modest but fruitful hit a few weeks after Homecoming’s release: “Baby Driver,” an original film from Edgar Wright that grossed $226.9 million against a $34 million budget.

Somehow, it is now late summer 2018. While the release of films like Solo: A Star Wars Story and Avengers: Infinity War seems long ago, they are represented in this latest rundown of books connected to the world cinema. But there is plenty else, including a classic from Paul Schrader, a juicy look at the Sumner Redstone empire, and a must-buy for fans of Clint Eastwood. Note that this summer also saw the release of David Lynch’s Room to Dream, a memoir co-written with journalist/critic Kristine McKenna. Nick Newman covered the insightful and surprisingly comprehensive book in June, and explains why Dream’s “enlightened restlessness” is so appropriate.

Directors’ trademarks is a series of articles that examines the “signatures” that filmmakers leave behind in their work. This month, we’re examining the trademark style and calling signs of Clint Eastwood as director.
Clint Eastwood became an american film star in the 1960’s thanks to his acting performances in a number of western films. As he began to branch out with new roles in front of the camera, he sought out to have more creative input into the types of film projects that he would be involved in. One way he was able to accomplish this was by creating his own production company which eventually allowed him to work behind the camera as director. His first film as director was 1971’s Play Misty For Me, which was well received by critics and did well at the box office. HIs second film as director was High Plains Drifter (1973), in which he also starred.

CopAt the ripe age of twenty-six—the two were born within days of each other in 1928—James B. Harris and Stanley Kubrick formed Harris-Kubrick Productions. With Kubrick leading the charge behind the camera and Harris acting as the right-hand-man producer, the duo completed three major critical successes: The Killing (1956), Paths of Glory (1957), and Lolita (1962). But where Kubrick’s subsequent work has achieved a supreme, hall-of-fame stature, Harris’s own directorial career—consisting of five excellent movies made across a four-decade span—remains, despite the valiant effort of a few notable English-language critics (Michael Atkinson, Jonathan Rosenbaum), on the relative sidelines. The latest attempt to boost Harris’s reputation: BAMcinématek’s week-long retrospective of Harris’s producing and directing output, selected by “Overdue” co-programmers Nick Pinkerton and Nicolas Rapold.Harris and Kubrick stopped working together amidst a pre-production disagreement during the making of what would become Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb...

"It would be one thing if J. Edgar, Clint Eastwood's bio-pic of FBI head J. Edgar Hoover, were merely another Eastwood film shot in the cloudy, patent-medicine weak-tea sepia tones of a Ken Burns production, with its minor-key piano chords and historically appropriate pop songs," writes James Rocchi for Box Office. "It would be another thing if J. Edgar were simply another Leonardo DiCaprio film where the star — through makeup and miracles — portrays another complex American legend whose public persona was only the smallest part of his complex life, as the actor did in the Martin Scorsese-directed The Aviator. But between Eastwood's direction and Dustin Lance Black's screenplay, what you feel leaking off the screen in every scene is missed opportunity. This material could have inspired a serious and artistic examination of the role of law and intelligence in America, of the toxic nature of secrets, or...

The 1970s was a significant decade in the history of American cinema. The sometimes wild experimentation of the avant garde movement of the 1960s had pretty much disappeared by the mid 70s. The decade gave birth to the adult film industry (Deep Throat), the modern slasher film (the one-two punch of Halloween and Friday The 13th), and the Hollywood blockbuster (Jaws and later Star Wars). The exploitation film subgenre (blaxploitation, sexploitation, etc.) peaked and gave way to teen comedies and horror films. The Western was all but dead. However, in 1976 American International Pictures released a wonderfully offbeat and satisfying Western comedy into this rapidly changing marketplace, The Great Scout And Cathouse Thursday, which regrettably is Not available on DVD.

Clint Eastwood takes a slightly different turn with his latest movie. Here's our take on Hereafter, which arrives in the UK today...
On the face of it, Hereafter might seem an odd fit for Clint Eastwood. A supernatural drama directed by the man who made his name through gritted teeth and a really big gun?
Eastwood, however, has always been keen to confound expectations, alternating between films engineered to play to his strengths and those that might stretch them.
As early as 1971's The Beguiled, he was turning his image on its head, then went back to the day job with Joe Kidd in 1972, before 1973's Breezy showed his more sensitive side. A kind of 'one for me, one for them' arrangement way before Steven Soderbergh got in on the act.
But Hereafter isn't the big stretch it would appear to be. There's a big question hinted at within Peter Morgan...

May31st is Memorial Day, but film fans might find another reason to celebrate, as it also happens to be Clint Eastwood's birthday. The granddaddy of all that is cool, quiet, and badass is turning 80 years old today. 80 years old. Ponder that for awhile, because it seems incredible, particularly since he's still as sharp, smart, and hardworking as ever. Sexy too! He may be 80 but he still has that incredible rakish smile, all the better because it was so rarely used on film.
After you're done honoring the sacrifices of our troops (don't think I mean that glibly), you might want to take two hours and celebrate Mr. Eastwood's birthday. TCM is hosting a marathon of Eastwood movies, beginning with his fresh-faced debut in The First Traveling Saleslady, continuing on through his trilogy with Sergio Leone, and finishing up with Magnum Force. Airing between is Richard Schickel's documentary The Eastwood Factor,...

Updated: Jeff Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere has posted his review as well. His thoughts are listed at the bottom of this post.
I will be seeing Clint Eastwood's Invictus on December 7, but it has already started screening in New York and Los Angeles and while many critics are being told to hold their tongue a few have been allowed to let the cat out of the bag.
The film is described as the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) joined forces with the captain of South Africa's rugby team (Damon) to help unite their country. Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africa's underdog rugby team as they make an unlikely run to the 1995 World Cup Championship match.
