Hard times for lovers

Coline Serreau who plays Anne became a successful director ,even if her movies are a bit questionable ("Trois Hommes Et Un Couffin" was supposed to be an anti-macho manifesto and it finally became an hymn to them ,via three finally smug characters)...

Jean-Louis Bertucelli made a masterpiece "Remparts d'Argile" (but not very accessible ,not "mainstream").This is his second effort and it's interesting: his two pitiful heroes still believe in romantic love and they come up against something they do no understand : the routine days and the discovery that life is not a fairy tale, not even a long quiet river: the scene at Anne's parents' place is revealing .Well acted by the two leads,Serreau and Francis Perrin.

Berucelli's next film "Docteur Françoise Gailland " was his biggest success but saw him join the ranks of the "Cinema De Qualité" .Never did he try something experimental such as "Remparts d'Argile" afterwards.
