Playing with Fire (1975)After becoming an international sensation in 1974 with her for-the-ages erotic turn as the titular Emmanuelle, Dutch actress Sylvia Kristel had the European art world at her feet. Sylvia grew up in Utrecht, the daughter of hoteliers, before shipping off to Catholic boarding school, attending dance school, and finally making her way to Paris. There, she found small parts in movies, eventually winning Miss TV Europe, a title that would land her an audition for Emmanuelle. The film changed Kristel’s life overnight, bringing her both opportunities to bolster her sex-symbol image and break away from it. A new home video collection from Cult Epics—which includes Julia, Playing with Fire, Pastorale 1943, and Mysteries—highlights the delicate balance Kristel found between her sexy persona and art-house aspirations.Julia is the closest Kristel would stay to her Emmanuelle role outside of that franchise, and would itself become a video-store...

Up and coming art house genre film label Altered Innocence has announced today that they've acquired all US rights to Kuba Mikurda's documentary, Love Express: The Disappearance of Walerian Borowczyk. One of the most innovative and challenging filmmakers of the '70s, Borowczyk's work is fantastically outré and retains the power to shock and engross over four decades later with standout cult favorites like the controversial fairy tale, The Beast, the arty horror of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Miss Osbourne, erotic horror triptych Immoral Tales, and the numerous unique short animations that brought him to the forefront of the Eastern European art scene at the beginning of his career. Mikurda's documentary looks at Borowczyk through from a number of different angles, but is...

‘Portrait Of A Lady On Fire’, ‘And Then We Danced’ lead Mubi, BFI Player charts.
Oliver Hermanus’ Moffie topped UK streaming platform Curzon Home Cinema’s (Chc) most-watched films over the weekend, after sidestepping a theatrical release due to the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown.
The gay military drama, which had its world premiere in the Horizons section of Venice, was originally due to receive a UK day-and-date release on April 24. But the continued closure of cinemas meant the film launched exclusively on Chc and performed strongly as audiences continue to seek out home entertainment during quarantine.

Date planning can be super stressful.
But not every date has to be at that fancy French restaurant with the super pricey snails.
The whole point of a date is to spend time with someone and get to know them better. This is true in television too.
Some of the best television dates involved someone getting a little creative. Okay, so sometimes they had to break the bank, but not always. In any case, some of these dates would be very fun.
So let's take a cue from the couples of television and see what some of the most creative dates they've gone on were.
1) Puck and Quinn - Glee - Babysitting
When a pregnant Quinn invited Puck to babysit with her on Glee Season 1 Episode 11, she was testing whether or not he was daddy material. This is something that a lot of couples (or almost couples) think about.

Could it be that after decades of self-flagellation Greg Dulli is ready to cut loose? On Random Desire, the latest solo outing by the Afghan Whigs and Twilight Singers’ resident tortured poet, he sounds like he’s at least willing to try.
The album opens with a spry, buoyant bass line and snappy rhythm on “Pantomima” — a mood that Dulli immediately crushes with his inherent pessimism, singing, “Desolation, come and get it.” A few seconds later, he cracks that his broken heart as been “fixed in post” like a Hollywood...

Review by Roger Carpenter
Polish director Walerian Borowczyk, long a filmmaker of experimental shorts, became a beloved celebrity of the arthouse circuit with his first two films, Goto Island of Love and Blanche. He began to fall out of favor with that crowd after his next two films were deemed pornographic and in bad taste, those films being Immoral Tales and, perhaps his most notorious film, The Beast. Lensing each of these films in France, where he made his home, The Story of Sin was his triumphant return to his Polish homeland.
The Story of Sin tells the tale of Ewa (Grazyna Dlugolecka), a beautiful yet pious young woman who strives to maintain a life free of sin. Her aging father cannot find work so the family lets rooms to keep afloat. Enter Lukasz (Jerzy Zelnick), a handsome young man separated from his wife and in need of a room.

Terry Gilliam is leading a Kickstarter campaign to restore Walerian Borowczyk’s classic 1968 film Goto, Island of Love (Goto, l’île d’amour).
Speaking the Polish filmmaker’s works, Gilliam said: “They activate a part of my brain that very few other things do…I haven’t seen any of these films in probably thirty or forty years, but they all have stuck with me. He needs to be restored and the world needs to be reminded.”
Earlier this year, Daniel Bird secured the permission of his widow Ligia Borowczyk to restore nine short films and two feature films including 1967’s The Theatre of Mr and Mrs Kabal (Le théâtre de Monsieur & Madame Kabal) and 1971’s Blanche which will be released by Arrow films in spring 2014.
Bird said: “For fifteen years I have been trying to find a way to restore Borowczyk’s early films. Obviously, I am thrilled to be working with Arrow Films on this...
