great stuff for kids
vandenberg-8228819 August 2023
So I was around 10/11 when I watched this. In the 70's and early 80's there were some good children shows coming from Australia. This was my favorite. Now almost 45 years later I can still easily sing along with the tune. In short a ship full of youths ( children of all places with all kind of faces) lands in a storm and some of the teenagers land on a weird island where time has stood still. They get some help from children from the village. I can't for the life of me rememember how it ended. I just remember it got me glued to the black and white tv for every episode. Good stuff from my childhood days.

There once was a wealthy man who had a wonderful idea...

This show made it to the UK as well. I've not seen it since 1979 and yet that theme song is imbedded in my brain forever! This is the best kids tv show to have come out of Australia; way better than Skippy! A great premise, teen heroes that aren't too annoying, great villains and genuine excitement in each episode. It was also very well filmed in exotic locations. My regret is that it only lasted one series; we were left hanging in suspense as to what was going to happen. Maybe a remake is in order?

i want the song Lost Islands

I remember as a young boy watching this show breathlessly, and in Turkey!. No wonder none of my friends in US have no idea about this show, I now realize that it is an Australian product: an excellent one. The song stayed with me, and I noticed that the lyrics are available on a web-site TV Nostalgia. I wonder if they are available online somewhere. As far as I recall the suspense was amazing, the Q character was invincibly evil. There were some innocent islanders suffering in the hands of the pirates who control the islands. IT created a sensation in Turkey. To find this one was easy, but I also remember an Italian show about some people stranded on an island. There were some evil people who created a sense of supernatural cause for several murders. A very beautiful blonde falls to the island and she tries to escape to no avail. IT was a pretty scary show. I hope I will find the track of that one too. I wish The Lost Islands will appear on DVD some time soon.

Magic

I have hoped all these last years to see The lost Islands, again. I was so excited when I saw the DVD in a big famous shop in Paris. The adventures of the five children who find themselves in an island where are living people like 200 years ago are still impassioning. Like another commentator, my only regret is that it is obvious that a second season was previous and not shoot. I could not find any comment about the film, The Lost Islands (with the same cast), that was released in Australia in 1975. Does anyone know something about it ? I would be so pleased to see it as well. Anyway thanks to the Australian channel who produced this wonder and to the French DVD distributor for having bought the rights of it and made The Lost Islands not lost anymore. Merci

Lost Islands

Loved every episode that played. It was the first show that continued in a series with a conclusion. Loved the open and closing tunes. Hope this will come to DVD. It was wonderful to see how 5 people could come together on a sailing ship from many countries and end up on an island inhabited by people from the15/16th century. As it goes. There once was a wealthy man who had a wonderful idea. To bring children from all places with all kinds of faces. Together into a sailing ship there were forty boys and girls. They would sail their ship around the world so they called it. The "United World". The ship was just three weeks from show when a hurricane bore down. The waves were big as mountains. They thought they would surely drown. They jumped into the lifeboats and rowed away from the wreck. They didn't count them they hadn't time 5 children where left behind. The children fought the storm all night then finally fell asleep. They didn't realize the ship had been blown across the reef into the Lost Islands. But hiding in the bushes was a watchful pair of eyes and living in the valley were people lost in time. Ruled over by a tyrant whose face was in a mask. The children must defeat them so They can escape at last from the Lost Islands. The Lost Islands.

The Lost Islands To Be released On DVD
robotb9-131 March 2005
The entire series of The Lost Islands is being released on DVD by a French company and will be available April 2005, cant wait. I remember watching this highly adventurous series when I was very young. It combines excitement, adventure with an atmosphere of mystery around the entire show. My favorite episode would have to be one of the last when the youngsters happen upon an old amphibious army vehicle (army Duc), restore it and eventually use it to free the villagers and themselves from the terror of the mighty "Q". It will be great to finally see this classic piece of Australian television history that was made for children but I bet many adults were addicted to it as well. If only more children's television programs were being made like this today.

The Lost Islands - Informations
gtalba114 January 2005
Hallo, I'm an Italian man, non in Romania. Searching in InterNet I found some info concerning "The Lost Islands", a serial which shocked me when I was young, when I was 13 years old. It means that I loved it very much for the adventures and for the exotic places where it was shot. Now, it seems incredible to find info about it on InterNet. But I'd like to read something more about the cast, about the place in which it was shot. I'd like also to see some picture of the scenes. Is it possible? Someone knows something about InterNet resources related: 1) photos/pictures 2) stories about this wonderful serial?. Please, if so, send email to gtalba1@hotmail.com, if so, send email to gtalba1@hotmail.com

Well thought of drama that includes a bit of sci-fi (TIME)
Pawlo28 September 1999
This show centered around 5 children who used there combined efforts to take control of an island inhabited by people still living in the past. It combines the realism of what if time travel was possible. It demonstrates the kids ability to work together. Catch theme song.

I just re-watched all 26 episodes!
StuOz22 March 2024
Teenagers on a mysterious island with a satanic 200 year old immortal running things.

I viewed the whole series a few times in the 1970s. Then the show was off my radar for about 43 years - just watched all 26 episodes this week!

This is one of the very best Australian TV shows ever made! New things stand out when re-watching the series today. Now it seems a little odd that these teenagers (a mix of male and female) are not romantically interested in each other. Now the island "villains" seem so harmless and almost amusing. But there is nothing wrong with all this because the series was for children. This is how a kid's show should be.

By today's standards the plots would probably seem too simple for many but I manged to get taken in by the wonderful filming locations and appeal of the whole cast.

If you are expecting a 1970s version of another mysterious island series - Lost (2004) - I should warn you there is much less science fiction going on here. Take away the plot point of the island leader being immortal and you are left with what is basically an adventure series.

There is the odd moral or message added but basically this is an adventure series and not much more. But I am fine with that. It might be a good thing that the show ended after just 26 episodes as this is a kid's show and it just felt like there was a limit to the plots they could do - because anything too adult or grim was obviously off the cards.

Over the last 50 years Australia has produced endless soap operas and crime dramas for television. Today, The Lost Islands stands as a refreshing oddity in the history of Oz entertainment. It also has one of the greatest theme songs in 1970s TV history.
