A true story but...

...it looks sometimes like a not so good melodrama.A specialist, working overtime in her hospital, neglects her family and hardly sees her lover (a fine cook who enjoys " boeuf mode" ).Soon she will be tossed by the tides of misfortune:her daughter is not happy, her son steals, her marriage is on the rocks... and, because she's a heavy smoker, she develops lung cancer.Annie Girardot' s talent is obvious ,but here enough is enough."To solve your family problems ,there's nothing like a good cancer!"sneered the critics. However Girardot and the supporting cast (Suzanne Flon,François Perier,Jean-Pierre Cassel and Isabelle Huppert ,in one of her first important parts) make the whole thing palatable.but not much more.
