How does one defend "The Farmer's Daughter"
flynnparadox26 September 2005
Warning: Spoilers
How does one defend "The Farmer's Daughter?" This is the question I am asking myself. The film is depraved, sadistic, perverse and soulless. Perhaps we should begin with these adjectives. I think that's a winning recommendation, actually. Especially when it comes to the adult film industry. Currently, adult films are afraid to offend beyond the normal boundaries (there is still a market for "rough sex," "humiliation," etc.) Put simply, adult films take no real chances anymore. "The Farmer's Daughter," while not a great film, at least has nerve on its side. It dares to be gleefully offensive, on nearly every level. There is depravity (forced incest of family members, including a Mother/daughter x 3 scene,) humiliation (the daughters are truly MEAN to the ranch hand,) and murder (the convicts and the ranch hand are all blow away.) All in all, it's pretty grueling, even for an entry in the "sadistic 70s" hardcore genre. It has all this, plus the demented mind of Zebedy Colt behind (and in front of) the camera. Only Colt (and Abel Ferrara) would direct a hardcore film which contains incest and cast himself as a father who gets "serviced" by his hottest daughter. And, to add the last cherry on top of this disgusting pie, the great Gloria Leonard plays the mother. Only in the 70s...

Terrible

If you've ever heard the rumor that Spalding (SWIMMING TO CAMBODIA) Gray once appeared in an XXX film, this is what they're talking about. The movie has one of those end credit montages where they show each actor in turn and display their names on the screen--and there's "Spaulding Gray" (sic), flashing a dopey grin at the camera. He plays the leader of a gang of escaped convicts who terrorize a farmer's family. The whole movie is very bad. Sadistic, monotonous, and no fun at all. The dialogue is especially embarrassing.

One of the best "roughies"

Warning: Spoilers
Frankly I'm surprised "The Farmer's Daughters" isn't mentioned more often when notorious classic adult films are being discussed. For those aware of the film, and even for fans of it (can one be a 'fan' of it?) it is known well as a depraved, sleazy round of grindhouse adult entertainment.

The plot is simple enough. Three sisters on a farm are caught by the farmhand Fred while watching their parents have sex. The sisters in turn take the farmhand (with a classic red 70's 'fro) and gang-rape him, but then humiliate him by doing things like peeing on him (!), forced sodomy and swatting his butt with a fly swatter. You can't help but laugh at the craziness of it all.

Enter three escaped convicts who come across the property, and start a home invasion where they rape the mother (Gloria Leonard) while holding the father (Zebedy Colt, also writer/director/producer) at bay. The sisters come around, the outlaws (the leader being Spaulding Gray) rape them, but then the real craziness begins.

Fred the farmhand comes back for revenge and stumbles upon the scene, and then proceeds to make the family have sex with each other, including the three daughters on the mom, and the dad getting serviced by one. Fred gets in on it too as the convicts laugh, which annoys Fred. It all leads up to the dad getting a hold of the gun, and pulling the trigger on the bad guys.

However, the ending reveals that everything that has happened after the girls raped Fred has been either a dream or a fantasy of Fred's, as he is shown startled as the girls throw a bucket of water on him to clean the pee off him. This ending can either be seen as clever or a cop-out depending on your point of view, as it makes the real brutality all stuff that never really happened.

The film actually looks "real" in the sense that nothing at all appears to have been prettied up to make the movie. This pretty much looks exactly what a home invasion on a farm back then would look like. The girls are indeed gorgeous, led by Marlene Willoughby, a tall, thin brunette who doesn't get the recognition she deserves as one of the classic adult actresses.

The cinematography while nothing special isn't half-bad for a cheap roughie, and the plot moves along at a brisk pace. There's lots of sex in between episodes of the plot advancing. Spaulding Gray as the leader of the outlaws even has one really good line, spoken as the camera is on his face before they rape the girls, "Never say no to a desperado."

This is definitely a rough flick, very hardcore, and not just in a sexual way. "The Farmer's Daughters" is dirty, scummy, and will make you feel like you want to take a shower afterwards. However, it is essential viewing for any fan of not only classic porno, but for the rough stuff of which there was a lot of in the 70's.

Country boys and girls doing the nasty down on the farm
Woodyanders23 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The randy daughters of an equally lascivious old coot farmer gleefully tag team and humiliate geeky farmhand Fred. The tables are turned on the gals when a trio of degenerate escaped convicts show up. Even Fred decides to join in on the depraved fun.

Writer/director Zebedy Colt pulls no punches in this extremely sick and twisted hardcore roughie: We've got rape, murder, incest, splashy water sports (gross!), even forced sodomy, fellatio, and a lesbian three way between the daughters and their MILFy mom (70's porno goddess Gloria Leonard). Susan McBain, Nancy Dare, and Marlene Willoughby are all blazing hot as the titular libidinous ladies. Moreover, it's a total hoot to see famous monologist Spalding Gray play the cheerfully evil ringleader of the escaped convicts. Super mean and perverse even by decadent 70's adult cinema standards, this wickedly enjoyable jaw-dropper overall rates as a really rough ride.
