A mostly musical trip to the films & stars of the 1930's

Many people may have seen this movie, but the title needs a little explaining. It has been listed as "Hollywood and the Stars"(1976) although a later date of 1987 sometimes appears, and "Hollywood On Parade"(1990). One DVD release sites it as "Hollywood On Parade" in its description, but when playing the disc, the title "Hollywood and the Stars" is shown! "Hooray for Hollywood" and the previous mentioned titles refer to the same movie, though, and it is definite that the film was produced in the mid 1970's.

Mickey Rooney adds lots to the narration, even going so far as doing some impersonations and bursting forth into a song or two, albeit briefly. And for those who felt short changed by the all too brief clip of Laurel & Hardy in "That's Entertainment Part 2", this similar compilation movie makes up for it. You can view Stan & Ollie singing their very popular(it peaked at #2 in the UK in 1975)"Trail of the Lonesome Pine" in its entirety. Also with, among others, Erroll Flynn, John Wayne, & Bogie on their respective boats, Gable lighting a cigarette, and Groucho and Harpo racing midget cars. Yes , it does feature mostly musical segments, but does pack in quite a number of superstars in quick shots, as well as the Great Stone Face in a sound comedy segment. And if for no other reason, watch this clip fest to see the airplane scene from "Flying Down to Rio"! Total running time is about 84 minutes.
