Violence & Gore

  • Several characters are killed by giant ants, many with bloody and gory results.
  • A couple is tackled by trio of ants. Two of them attack a man and wrestle him to ground, where he gets bitten and bloodied around the neck. The cinematography is zingy as this happens. His wife is attacked offscreen and then his arm is discovered by the group.
  • A colony of ants crawl onto the boat. One of them is beaten with an axe, emanating squeals of pain. The other one intercepts another guy, killing him; splotched blood is visible on the deck and his trousers. After tanks of gasoline are broken open, the boat catches fire - incinerating the ants.
  • A woman twists her ankle and then gets trampled by ants, dying offscreen.
  • A woman is inflicted by a tree branch, scarring her arm. Her husband is then attacked with blood covering one side of his face and chest. She runs off screaming.

  • One character gets whipped in the face with a butt of the shotgun, knocking him cold.
  • An ant is assaulted with a road flare, causing it to squeal relentlessly.

Profanity

  • Mild obscenities are used such as damn, hell, SOB, etc.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Drinking and smoking in a typical 70's flick.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The giant-sized ants, especially in close-ups or POV shots, will frighten younger viewers.
  • Anything in the "Violence and Gore" section could be considered intense for young children.
  • The ants squeal.
  • A majority of the ant attacks are pretty quick; lot of shaky-cam for added intensity.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • One character, in particular, is brutally attacked and, for a split-second, we can see that his chest spurts blood while his face becomes extremely bloody. This is, perhaps, the goriest death of the film.
