George Lucas selbst sagte einmal er wollte mit den Filmen Märchen erschaffen. Dementsprechend ist dieser Film auch ein bisschen kindisch, heroisch und abenteuerlich - viel kann man nicht in den Film reininterpretieren. Doch er ist ein sehr guter Film - nicht zu Unrecht sogar ein Klassiker.
Die Geschichte, die Story ist ohnehin kreativ und sehr gut. Die Schauspieler sind wirklich klasse: Mark Hamill kauft man seine Unschuldige Luke Skywalker Figur wirklich ab, Harrison Ford ist mit seiner Arschloch-Rolle als Han Solo fast schon der größere (nur nicht der vernünftigere) Held, Alec Guinness spielt nicht nur einen Weisen er IST weise, Peter Cushing als Tarkin ist ein Welklasse Schurke - Darth Vader kann man eher "Kostüm" als "Schauspieler" zuordnen; ist aber noch besser - und die restlichen Schauspieler spielen auch recht gut.
Was diesen Film berühmt gemacht hat ist die geniale Kulisse, die ganzen Designs der Sturmtruppen, (Vader :D ) und der Raumschiffe - in vielen Science-Fiction-Filmen sehen die Raumschiffe irgendwie 08/15 aus; hier das perfekte Gegenteil - und natürlich die Effekte. Die Effekte sind großartig - auch ohne Special Edition. Natürlich sind Effekte nicht alles.
Was diesem Film wirklich seine Tiefe verleiht ist die Musik. Nicht das Hauptthema, das ist auch gut, aber die gesamte Komposition ist fast schon die beste Filmmusik. Wenn George Lucas nicht das Glück gehabt hätte, John Williams als Komponisten zu kriegen, hätte diesem Film etwas gefehlt.
Und mit der Musik schmilzt alles - Drehbuch, Schauspieler, Kamera, Effekte, Szenenbild und alles andere - zusammen zu einem einzigen Stück. Ich persönlich bin von dem Film fasziniert, was aber daran liegt, dass ich als Kind den Film total klasse fand. Von außen betrachtet ist der Film nicht ganz so gut - er ist eher Unterhaltungsfilm - aber er hätte trotzdem noch 7 oder 8 Sterne bekommen.
