Betty Lou Lazarra, a former fashion model who killed her husband — department store mogul Al Haber — in 1975 is the latest subject of Investigation Discovery’s series Evil Stepmothers, airing tonight. The second episode of the show’s second season, titled The Price of Greed, shows how Lazarra’s stepchildren discovered “just how determined and evil she [could] be,” according to a description of the show. Lazarra killed Haber in an attempt to reap the benefits of his life insurance policy. The killing earned her the nickname “The Black Widow.” Her son from a prior marriage helped her arrange for a hitman...read more...

Hydra has taken over! The Black Widow has a dangerous plan to take them down, and it may require the heroes of the Marvel Universe to cross a line they never thought they would… Helmed by Derek Landy, writer of the blockbuster, award-winning Skulduggery Pleasant series, with art by Joshua Cassara (New Avengers) it’s time for Natasha Romanoff to unite the next generation of Marvel heroes against the oncoming forces of Hydra with Secret Empire: Uprising.
“One of the overriding themes in Secret Empire: Uprising is for the heroes not to make the same old mistakes all over again,” said Landy. “The Champions, for instance, are looking for non-violent ways to stop violent opponents, and that ethos spills over into Uprising. How do a bunch of super-powered kids, brimming with optimism, factor in the Black Widow’s dark agenda when confronted with Captain America’s role in the Hydra takeover of America?...

Having played the game three times before Game Changers, Cirie Fields has many feats to her name on Survivor. Cirie is one of the best strategic minds in Survivor to have never actually won the game. One of Cirie's most famous and warmly regarded moves was her part in the all-female alliance The Black Widow Brigade in Survivor: Micronesia. While most of the cast of Survivor: Game Changers is trying to change things up for this returning season, if Cirie wants to win she is going to have to repeat her past successes. If Cirie wants to win Survivor: Game Changers she is going to need to form a new all-female alliance.

With the release of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we figured this would be the perfect opportunity to highlight the women of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
If you ask us, Gamora is the best part of the Guardians of the Galaxy. She's incredibly strong, fierce, and has overcome many obstacles in her life. She's definitely the most skilled of the bunch, and frankly we're not sure what Star-Lord and the gang would do without her. Check out where she ranked on our list of the top 5 female Marvel heroes, and let us know who we missed and who your favourites are in the comments below!
5. Pepper Potts (Iron Man)
While she's not a hero in the traditional sense, there's no denying that Pepper Potts is essentially Iron Man's right hand woman.

Ever since Kick-Ass came out back in 2010, we've seen a proliferation of "local superheroes," people who suit up in spandex and set out to protect the cities they live in. Uproxx points us to the latest case study in this phenomenon: a guy in Norfolk, Virginia who wears a Spider-Man-inspired suit and refers to himself as The Black Widow.
The newscaster seems really into this story, going as far as to extend Black Widow's baton on camera. It makes me wonder... since the Black Widow operates under a secret identity and we don't ever see the costumed man in the same shot as the newscaster, what if — you ready for this? — the newscaster Is the Black Widow? What better way to spread the word of your good deeds than to use your access to a local audience to do so? Well, I've convinced myself at this point, so good look...

Growing up with the film music of Lalo Schifrin in the 1970s made these two albums somewhat compulsory listening. Black Widow (1976) marked Schifrin’s debut album for the legendary Cti (Creed Taylor Incorporated) label with Towering Toccata (1977) proving to be a perfect follow up. Both of these albums (recorded in 1976) feature some of the greatest Jazz musicians of the period including Eric Gale, Steve Gadd, Hubert Laws, Jon Faddis, Anthony Jackson and Joe Farrell, to name just a few.
Schifrin provides a Jazz funk vibe to some classic movie themes including Steven Spielberg’s monster smash Jaws. The track (which still sounds incredible) was released from Black Widow as a single and charted at number 14 in the UK singles chart, becoming something of an established disco anthem. The Black Widow album also did well, reaching number 22 in the Us list of jazz bestsellers and appeared in the R&B chart.

Assemble! *Bleep* We've already stated how much we want to hang out with the cast of The Avengers: Age of Ultron and after watching their gag reel, we want to hang out with them even more. The bloopers are featured on the film's Blu-ray, which is set for release on Oct. 2, and in a Yahoo! Movies video posted on Wednesday. Chris Evans, aka Captain America, and Scarlett Johansson, aka The Black Widow, are adorable while goofing around together, while she and Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury, play off each other well after she misses her mark, emitting some Nsfw language. The Hulk Mark Ruffalo launched into an impressive Peter Falk-as-Columbo impression...

Due to the nature of The Bachelorette's bizarre, semi-polyamorous approach to dating, more than a few tears were shed on this week's episode as Kaitlyn got closer to making her final choice.
For her part, Kaitlyn continued to feel guilty about her decision to sleep with Nick, as seen in last week's audience-dividing episode. Meanwhile, Shawn was as singularly focused on Nick's relationship with Kaitlyn as ever, likely because this is the first time in his life he's ever not had a woman's undivided attention. That's fair, really.

Twin Peaks, Season 2, Episode 12, “The Black Widow”
Written by Harley Peyton & Robert Engels
Directed by Caleb Deschanel
Originally aired January 12, 1991 on ABC
“Wine comes in at the mouth, love comes in at the eye;
I hold my glass to my lips, I look at you and sigh …”
Twin Peaks without David Lynch is certainly not the same, but it’s impossible to completely lose the magic. Watching these season two episodes can sometimes feel like one is consistently making excuses, forgiving this scene and that scene and placing them within the proper context for it to go down a little easier. The truth is that so much of the series still works, even as it tries to work against all that it has built by, say, giving James his own storyline.

Aired December 15, 1990 on ABC
“There is also a legend of a place called the Black Lodge, the shadow self of the White Lodge. Legend says that every spirit must pass through there on the way to perfection. There, you will meet your own shadow self. My people call it the Dweller on the Threshold. But it is said, if you confront the Black Lodge with imperfect courage, it will utterly annihilate your soul.” - Deputy Hawk
The long-awaited revival of Twin Peaks returned from its own horrific limbo in the Black Lodge earlier this month, when David Lynch announced on Twitter that he’d worked out a deal with Showtime to honor his original commitment to direct the third season—only six weeks after he’d walked away from the project in a similarly public fashion.

This month instead of two doing cocktails for two shows or movies, I decided to focus on the biggest news of the week. As always, please drink responsibly!

With its massive $191.3 million haul at the box office this weekend (the second biggest of all time), "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" is unsurprisingly a giant, four-quadrant hit. But not everyone is pleased by the depiction of the superhero team's sole woman member. In a new post over at The Daily Beast, contributor Marlow Stern writes that, while he considers writer/director Joss Whedon to be "an outspoken ally of feminism with the resume to back it up," his portrayal of Black Widow a.k.a. Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) in "Ultron" is disappointing in the way it makes Natasha's infertility the main thrust of the character's storyline. [Note: There are some spoilers below.] "Her infertility then becomes the main focus of Romanoff’s Ultron journey," Stern writes. "While none of the other Avengers really worry about raising a family, Romanoff yearns for the domesticated life of Hawkeye’s secret pregnant wife, Susan, played by Linda Cardellini.

Saturday Night Live, Season 40, Episode 19, “Scarlett Johansson/Wiz Khalifa”
Aired May 2, 2015 at 11:30 pm Et on NBC (East coast version watched for review)
The Host: Scarlett Johansson is a mother in lots of films—that’s what Milf means right?—and that’s because she is supernaturally talented. Her 2013-2014 run of Don Jon, Under the Skin, Her, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Lucy (Chef is in there too as the only arguable demerit) will likely be the greatest string of films by any actor this decade. So it would make sense that with so much star power and charisma in the studio this week, SNL would use it to their advantage. The monologue would seem to indicate that the show would be smartly taking advantage of Johansson’s presence, as she sings what turns out to be a very sexy lullaby that will keep Kenan Thompson up for the rest of his life.

Sebastian Stan from his InstagramNathaniel, reporting from the snowy mountains of Park City Utah for the annual Sundance Film Festival. Michael, currently en route, will also be covering though we both missed opening night (I was still visiting family in Utah).
From what I gather the opening night talk mostly revolved around Sebastian Stan's muscular performance in a raunchy sex scene in The Bronze. While that event was happening (unbeknownst to me) I was still visiting my mom and brother and they made me* watch muscular Sebastian Stan and his robot arm terrorizing Captain America and The Black Widow.
So, it was unofficially Sebastian Stan Day. Perhaps this is a good omen for the actor's 2015, which he already seems rather happy about (see photo evidence, left). Variety interviewed him at the premiere and he said the script for The Bronze was so funny that before he even got the...

We're deep into "Pretty Little Liars" fifth season, and A is officially back in action. Although, let's be real -- this hooded stalker never really left the sepia-toned streets of Rosewood, though s/he did take a brief vacation from the ritualistic stalking of a bunch of teenagers long enough for the PLLs to think they were free. Hah, please. After all, life in Rosewood wouldn't be complete without snarky texts and the occasional bout of arson.
Now that our favorite masked villain is back, there's a whole new slew of possible subjects and we've put together a list of contenders!
1. Alison Dilaurentis Does anyone else find it strange that A showed up in Rosewood at the same time as Alison? Sure, this dead girl walking was supposedly stalked to the point of fleeing her hometown, but don't forget that Ali is a compulsive liar with an advanced degree in sleuthing.

By now you've heard and digested or, more likely given this crowd (you didn't even comment on that juicy misogynistic She-Hulk debacle!), ignored the drama surrounding Disney/Marvel's Ant-Man movie. The long and short of it: Edgar Wright, of Shaun of the Dead / Scott Pilgrim fame who is unarguably adept and inventive about action-comedy (a unique skill given how unfunny action 'comedies' usually are), abruptly left over creative differences. Now from the roster of potential replacements (none of them even ⅕ as interesting as Wright), one has already fallen away. Leaving us sad for Paul Rudd (probably locked into the role for a decade) and Joss Whedon's Avengers: The Age...

A plethora of tantalizing information has come out about the details of Avengers: Age of Ultron. If it all turns out to be true, the sequel sounds like it may live up to expectations.
The plot of Avengers: Age of Utron is a source of considerable curiosity for film and comic fans. A lot of information has come out recently via the site JoBlo, who claim to have the inside lowdown on the anticipated sequel. If all these rumors turn out to be true, the sequel may match the quality of highly regarded first film.
According to JoBlo, the film will begin with a battle sequence in a forested area of Africa, where the reunited Avengers will be fighting the forces of Baron Strucker and Hydra, along with the “miracle twins” Pietro and Wanda, better known as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (already seen in the post-credit sequence of Captain America: the Winter Soldier...

I can't tell you how proud I am to be hosting Ja's weekly series "Beauty vs. Beast". I feel like a giddy reader each Monday just wondering which amusing sophie's choice he'll pose. But he's in Italy this week so I'm your substitute pollster.
I wanted a poll where I wouldn't know who would win. I caught up with Thor: The Dark World recently (for reasonszzz) and I'm about to leave for a screening of Captain America: Winter Soldier so Loki & Black Widow are both on the brain. Remember that great tense scene in The Avengers where the Hulk is after The Black Widow? Remember how they both stole that whole movie via outsmarting or smashing Loki? It's a literal Beauty vs. Beast this week
poll by twiigs.com
Voting Continues!
Both this poll and the Talented Mr Ripley "Tom vs. Dickie" poll are open until Sunday when Ja returns from Italy.

Did you know that May marks Batman's 75th birthday? The billionaire in the cowl was introduced in Detective Comics #27 May 1939 edition (a comic that sold a few years ago for over a million dollars). He's aged well but trust funds will help that way. And Bruce Wayne had more money than God even before Batman was a cultural icon and DC and Warner Bros figured out how to make billions from trotting him out consistently. Warner Bros is planning a year-long celebration as well they should since their ownership of DC's superheroes on screen probably accounts for a nice sliver percentage of their profits.
I'd suggest a theme week here but after the past 25 years of movie blockbusters featuring the caped crusader, maybe I need a break. What say ye? Celebrate or Ignore? Or somewhere inbetween?

Rumor on the street is that high-level S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents have no idea where their boss is.
Since the battle of New York when Nick Fury was reportedly at odds with a mysterious S.H.I.E.L.D. shadow council over the attempted nuclear strike against Manhattan, the power structure of the United States’ premiere spy organization has been fractured to the extreme.
A S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent who didn’t want to be identified (too bad, Agent Sitwell), has no idea where Director Fury is.
Keeping mum about the whole this is Agent Phil Coulson, thought deceased after being stabbed through the heart through alien/trickster-god Loki. Coulson seems to want to keep things insular with his team of agents that fly around in a multi-million dollar battle aircraft Fury commissioned as part of his push for more S.H.I.

According to the original Marvel Comics, in 1945 'Steve Rogers' aka 'Captain America' and company mascot 'Bucky' tried to stop the villain 'Baron Zemo' from destroying an experimental drone plane, after Zemo launched the plane with an attached explosive device. So if the Black Widow had a sports car, what would it be? You don’t have to wait until the April 4 premiere of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” to find out. Visitors to the Chicago Auto Show will see the world premiere of the black-on-black Corvette Stingray driven by S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Black Widow in the sequel to Captain America. They should not expect to see the Black Widow, but Chevrolet will distribute a limited-edition Captain America comic book to celebrate its team up with Marvel Entertainment, LLC. Marvel is bringing new footage of Captain America's second solo outing to the big game this Sunday, but ahead of that they've released a few new character posters for the film. Come inside to check out the Captain, Black Widow, and Nick Fury (looking like a boss)!
Marvel fans are eager to see more footage from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and why not? The first trailer for the film was pretty damn awesome and had me way more interested than I thought I'd be. We'll get to see more of the film in a couple days during the Super Bowl, but for now, we'll have to use these nifty looking character posters to sustain us (courtesy of Yahoo):

The "Comedy Central Roast of James Franco" pulled in Ok ratings Monday night (Sept. 2), improving on last year's roast of Roseanne.
The premiere of the roast, which featured the likes of Andy Samberg, Seth Rogen and Aziz Ansari, drew 3.1 million viewers, 2.4 million of whom fell into the adults 18-49 demographic.
Two replays later in the night pushed the total viewer count to 5.2 million. While the Franco roast was bigger than the one of Roseanne last year, it fell behind recent roasts of Charlie Sheen, Donald Trump and David Hasselhoff in total viewers (though in the young-guy audience the channel targets, only Sheen's roast was bigger).

- Matt Damon and Michael Douglas are the first two presenters confirmed for the Primetime Emmys on Sept. 22. Both men are also nominees for their roles in HBO's movie "Behind the Candelabra."

NBC has inked a deal with Ben Silverman’s Iac-owned company Electus to develop three telenovelas with an eye toward airing one as a 13-episode series — with multiple episodes running each week, following telenovelas’ traditional air pattern. That would mark a rare stripped primetime run for an original scripted series on a U.S. English-language network. “We believe there is huge potential for telenovelas to be adapted and developed for American viewers,” said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke. “These stories clearly have resonance across all cultures and nationalities.” NBC and Electus have identified the first project to be developed under the pact, The Black Widow, from writer Sri Rao (General Hospital: Night Shift). It is an adaptation of the hit Venezuelan telenovela La Viuda Joven, which premiered in 2011 and aired 142 episodes around the world. (See the Spanish-language trailer below.)
