VERY ENTERTAINING POLITICAL SOAP
J. Steed6 October 1999
This is a kind of political soap with all the needed ingredients as love, marriage, jealousy, murder etc combined with German historical and political events from about 1914 till about 1949. Good story telling and good rhythm make this a very entertaining fast-paced film; you will not notice that the film takes 3 hours. Very good cast with Angelica Domröse excellent as Fleur Lafontaine. The film does suffer from typical 70's cinematography with a lot of zooming and there are moments that Horst Seemann is a bit too pretentious: what to make for instance of the inserted Schlager "Es wird in 100 Jahre wieder Frühling sein"? Is this a political message? Anyhow, not a great film but great fun.
