Burning Showers (Lahaie)

Burning Showers (1978)

** (out of 4)

French adult movie (original title ONDEES BRULANTES) has a couple going into a cutting room where they're going to watch some rushes from a porn movie but soon they find each other more interesting than the movie. I'm not an expert on this type of film but if you read around it appears that the French are considered masters at this type of adult movie. I'm not going to argue that but this one here is about as cheap as one can get. We pretty much get a film within a film as our four people (including Brigitte Lahaie) simply watch what looks to be very rough outtakes from something really cheap. After a while they all go at it in the room. That's pretty much all there is storywise but I'm guessing most people will be attracted to this film for the appearance of Lahaie. Fans of her certainly won't be disappointed as she pretty much does everything possible to both men and the woman on board. The film (with the four in the room) is fairly well made with some nice shots and a rather good music score but the outtakes are all rather poorly done.

A quickie for all concerned

Warning: Spoilers
It may be true that nobody really watches Brigitte Lahaie movies for the plot, but "Ondées Brûlantes" (aka Burning Showers) brings new meaning to the term minimalism. Directed by Jack Régis and Bernard Lapeyre, it is obvious that one of them got hold of a yacht for a weekend, invited some regulars from the French porno scene and started to film some footage with the intend of building some kind of story around it at a later date. When this plan fell apart, director # 2 stepped in to film a framework story involving a quartet of different adult film stars. in the end result, neither story amounts to much other than some extended foursomes.

The first couple we meet are played by André Miller and France Lomay. He invites her home for the proverbial roll in the hay, after which (and right on cue) Guy Royer calls to invite them to a screening of some rushes he's been working on. As Guy hangs up the phone he returns his attention to his daily routine: being pleasured by his assistant Brigitte Lahaie and eventually returning the favor. At two O'clock the foursome heads into the screening room to watch highlights from 'Jouir à Fond de Sexe'. This mainly consists of some familiar faces (most of whom uncredited) having sex on the deck of a yacht, then setting foot on dry land for some fun on the rocks before playing slightly perverted pirate games on the boat again.

In the screening room, André & France are easily aroused and in turn, also turn on Guy & Brigitte. Before long, the projectionist is spinning celluloid for nothing, as nobody is watching the film anymore. And I daresay the same thing goes for most of the viewers, as the film within a film sequences are easily the least interesting part of this very simplistic feature. Oh and as for the English title, there isn't a shower in sight, let alone one that's on fire.
