Four cast members in this movie appeared in James Bond movies; Joseph Wiseman played the first Bond villain in Dr. No (1962); Donald Pleasence played Bond's chief nemesis Ersnt Stravo Blofeld in You Only Live Twice (1967). Sir Christopher Lee played a Bond villain in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), and Barbara Bach played Major Anya Amasova in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).
The movie's lead male star was Joe Lewis who had recently had won the title of World Heavyweight Karate Champion in 1979. He had once trained with Bruce Lee and during the 1960s fought several matches against Chuck Norris.
The picture was planned as the first in a series of action movies featuring the special agent character of Jonathan Cross to be played by Joe Lewis according to an article published in the July-August 1978 edition of magazine 'Mediascene'. He was signed to a four picture deal by executive producer Sandy Howard but no further sequels to this film were made.
