Final theatrical feature film of actor Broderick Crawford. Reportedly, he later was on the set of Maharlika (1987) but passed away during filming.
The meaning of the movie's title is as follows according to the 'Answers' website: A 'Liar's Moon' is a moon with a ring around it, sometimes with clouds partially obscuring it . According to myth, legend, folklore, this bodes ill of any sort. Sometimes a liar's moon can indicate bad weather or stormy times ahead. It is considered to be a bad omen and never a good omen. To be born under a liar's moon is considered to have been born under some kind of falsity or falsehood as with a deep family secret or a skeleton in a closet. ''This is referred to in the movie of the same name . . . two young people deeply in love who were told never to see each other again . . . but no one ever told them *why*.''
Australian home video sleeve notes declared on the front cover of its tape release during the 1980s: ''Have you ever wanted to change the ending of a movie? Here's your chance! Happy or tragic...the choice is yours! And both endings are on this one cassette!''. The back cover stated: ''FOR THE FIRST TIME . . . YOU CAN CHOOSE YOUR OWN ENDING . . . and both endings appear on this cassette. The lives of these two young lovers are in your hands! Choose to let them live happily for ever . . . or chose the tragic ending!!''. As such, the two endings became a movie marketing gimmick as with 3D, widescreen versions such as Cinerama, and Odorama from Polyester (1981) the previous year.
The carnival sequence in the picture featured about two thousand extras and background artists according to an article published in the 9th January 1981 edition of show-business trade-paper 'The Hollywood Reporter'.
