Mostly klamauk and nothing funny

And if you don't know that word yet, it means something like hullabaloo. "Im Dschungel Ist Der Teufel Los" or "Crazy Jungle Adventure" is a co-production between South Africa and Germany that resulted in a 90-minute movie from 1982, so it's already almost 35 years old. The director is Harald Reinl and he worked with writer Manfred Purzer on this one. But it is certainly not the brightest hour for both of them as this film is as chaotic as it gets and also does not make any sense at all in terms of story-telling. There is an okay message about the environment and animals here and there, but this is probably also the only good aspect of this one. The acting is on par with the writing and the film takes itself more seriously than it has any right to at times. Tough to blame the actors though with a screenplay like that. The main character is played by James Mitchum (yep the son) and German audiences may recognize Jenny Jürgens or Thomas Ohrner in their younger years in here. Or maybe fans of Bud Spencer's works recognize child actor Baldwyn Dakile. But even if you do all of the above, you will have a really difficult time to actually like this movie because it is so absurd, unrealistic and unauthentic from start to finish. Yes there may be a beautiful camera shot at times, but this is also only because of the fascinating location. (Check out the co-producing country I mentioned earlier.) I have seen many works by Reinl and I am still somewhat baffled by his successes. Most of what I have seen really hasn't aged well at all, but I guess people liked it for how different it all was compared to stuff that dealt with the years of war that many Germans did not want to be reminded of. So yeah this is a perfect example of a work that is even more gimmicky than Reinl's western movies. And it is just as bad as most of these. Thumbs-down from me and I struggle to see a single component that this film is worth seeing for. Go skip it.

Rather stupid jungle comedy adventure

Warning: Spoilers
I recently picked up a DVD of Crazy Jungle Adventure as it looked an interesting movie. Interesting yes but rather stupid too.

A motley collection of people, some of them escaping from gangsters crash-land on a tropical island, unaware that the gangsters will catch up with them. On the island, they are confronted by Lions, Tigers, Elephants and Monkeys but thankfully, all these animals are friendly including the big cats and these animals save the castaways from the gangsters.

This movie would have been a lot better if it was done as a drama, it is certainly rather stupid at times and poor acting too.

Silly low budget rubbish, best for only the scenery and animals. Certainly one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Rating: 2 stars out of 5.
