Following the release of the latest Wrong Turn movie, Constantin Music is set to release the film's soundtrack this Thursday, and we have the exclusive track premiere of "Snare Trap" from composer Stephen Lukach:
"The process for director Mike Nelson and I started by discussing some of our influences and inspirations, after which it became clear that he was very interested in the specific sounds and sonics of the score. He wanted it to be largely sound design-based and also to be as simple as possible when we could, focusing on finding key signature sounds for certain characters and situations as opposed to melodic themes. As we got into the scoring process, the sounds that Mike most gravitated towards were scratchy and piercing solo strings and high atonal synths to supplement the tension and horror, warped and manipulated pulses to add pace and intensity, and rumbling and growling basses...

We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in October 2018.
Happy Huluween!
Hulu is blessed to have a name that sounds roughly enough like "Hallow." That means it's basically honor-bound to bring the heat for Halloween. Thankfully for the October 2018 new releases, Hulu is bringing us the spookies that we need. The Blair Witch Project, The Others, and Child's Play all arrive this month. And if you're looking for some more wholesome creepies, The Nightmare Before Christmas should do. And if that weren't enough, Hulu is debuting its own horror show - anthology series Into the Dark.
For those shamefully unable to get into the Halloween spirit, Hulu is bringing in some other fun film options. Galaxy Quest, Music and Lyrics, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective should help out with that.
Then of course, are the usual and typically deep TV offerings.

Split Image: Stearns’ Debut a Dark Hearted Cult Comedy
The insidious recruitment techniques of religious cults used to be a veritable genre staple, beginning, perhaps, with the fascination surrounding the highly publicized Manson Family murders in the late 1960s. The media sensation resulted in a culturally acknowledged terror reflected in the cinema for decades to come, and one may recall a slew of 1980s titles that cashed in on these cultural fears, with titles like Ticket to Heaven (1981) and Bad Dreams (1988) now languishing in obscurity, despite a variety of notable historical markers, from the Jim Jones’ led mass suicide in 1978 Jonestown, Guyana, to the Branch Davidian and Heaven’s Gate episodes of the 1990s. It appears there may be a minor resurgence in the topic, with Ti West’s recent The Sacrament (2013) recreating the spirit of Jim Jones. Now, Faults, the directorial debut of Riley Stearns, which premiered at...

Cult movie classic ‘Pretty Poison’ filmmaker Noel Black dead at 77 (photo: Tuesday Weld and Anthony Perkins in ‘Pretty Poison’) Noel Black, best remembered for the 1968 cult movie classic Pretty Poison, died of pneumonia at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on July 5, 2014. Black (born on June 30, 1937, in Chicago) was 77. Prior to Pretty Poison, Noel Black earned praise for the 18-minute short film Skaterdater (1965), the tale of a boy skateboarder who falls for a girl bike rider. Shot on the beaches of Los Angeles County, the dialogue-less Skaterdater went on to win the Palme d’Or for Best Short Film and tied with Orson Welles’ Falstaff - Chimes at Midnight for the Technical Grand Prize at the 1966 Cannes Film Festival. Besides, Skaterdater received an Academy Award nomination in the Best Short Subject, Live Action category. (The Oscar winner that year was Claude Berri’s Le Poulet.) ‘Pretty Poison’: Fun and games and...

Scream Factory continues their winning streak of releasing horror film favorites with their double feature Blu-ray release of 1988’s Bad Dreams and 1982’s Visiting Hours. They originally released these films together on DVD in September 2011.
Bad Dreams opened on Friday, April 8, 1988 and is, in hindsight, eerily prescient of David Koresh, the leader of the Branch Davidian religious sect who met a horrific end when the FBI closed in on him and his compound ignited into a conflagration on April 19, 1993 in Waco, TX. Jim Jones and the Jonestown deaths in 1978 also come to mind. In this film, the late Richard Lynch plays a cult leader named Harris who convinces a group of people that love and unity are the only ways to live, and he shows that love by dousing them all in gasoline and lighting them on fire. Jennifer Rubin plays Cynthia, a confused and reluctant holdout...

Anthony Perkins in Goodbye Again
Happy birthday to the man I call my Time Machine Husband (Tm), Anthony Perkins. The effete, beautiful actor best known for his astonishing performance as Norman Bates in Psycho would've been 81 today, and without even reading Charles Winecoff's gripping biography Split Image, you can tell in Mr. Perkins' performances that he was enigmatic, complicated, and conflicted. Though Perkins died of AIDS in 1992, his silver screenlegacy endures thanks to his lengthy, strange filmography.
Hollywood wanted Perkins to be the next James Dean, but his vulnerability and (frankly) apparent gayness stood at odds with that demand. As I like to say, we can't rewrite cinematic history to include all the wonderful gay characters we deserve, so we as gay entertainment anthropologists have to find our stories in the nuances, innuendos, and otherwise untold stories hidden right onscreen (perhaps unintentionally), right within all the stated heterosexuality. Though...

Robert B. Parker, a best-selling mystery novelist and the creator of the "Spenser" series of novels, has died.
Parker, 77, died Monday (Jan. 18). The cause of death isn't known yet; according to several reports, he was just "sitting at his desk" when he passed away.
Parker is probably best known for the Spenser series, which spans more than 30 books and stars a tough, worldly Boston private eye. The novels were the basis for the 1980s ABC series "Spenser: For Hire," which starred Robert Urich, and several TV movies starring Joe Mantegna.
Parker also penned the Jesse Stone novels about about a burned-out, alcoholic Lapd detective who moves to Massachusetts and becomes the chief of police in a small town. The books have been adapted for several TV movies on CBS, with Tom Selleck playing the title character. His western novel "Appaloosa" was turned into a 2008 feature film starring Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen.
