Sex & Nudity

  • Female characters wear revealing clothing, however no nudity is seen.
  • A young couple cuddle in the sea water half naked.
  • No sex scenes, but there are some sexual references.

Violence & Gore

  • Strongly suggested MPAA rating: R for graphic shark attacks with blood and gore. This is clearly an R-rated movie that was incorrectly rated PG.
  • A severed arm is shown.
  • A man is eaten with little blood shown.
  • A girl is cut with blood streaming down.
  • A dead corpse is seen in a window. We see it again in close-up and another shot shows his arm already been bitten off.
  • A main character falls into the shark's mouth, he survives however, and we see him struggling to escape. He is then eaten slowly, his grunts and moans as he dies can be disturbing. A fair about of crunching is heard as well, and a lot of blood flows into the water.
  • A man is grabbed by the shark and violently bitten in half.
  • The film has a body count about the same as the first Jaws but is more graphic and arguably the goriest in the series.

Profanity

  • One use of Bitch
  • 20 hells, 4 asses.
  • A couple uses of shit and damn.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The first night Mike, Sean and Kathryn meet Kelly, they are drinking whiskey or wine etc.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • 12+ Moderate Scary Scenes and Violence. 12.
  • There is one part of the movie where somebody pulls the sheet off of an extremely decomposed body; we can see the face up close. This part can be extremely terrifying for everyone. One of the most can be or even the bloodiest delivery in the Jaws series. Some images are disturbing to many people and for a sensitive audience. In addition to large doses of suspense and tension.
  • Suspense and terror throughout the film.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • When being carried out of the water after being attacked, Lea Thompson's breasts can be clearly seen through her wet shirt.

Violence & Gore

  • A shark is blown to pieces -- lots of body parts and blood, but the shark's death is shown in 3-D.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is a close up shot of a shark victim's decomposing head with an eel squirming from its mouth. This shot is quite disturbing when viewed in the original 3-D version.
  • The scene in which Phillip Fitzroyce is being killed in the sharks mouth can be disturbing and to some viewers.
