Sex & Nudity

  • A man helps a young drunk woman undress. She is scantily clothed but no nudity.
  • In the dance numbers a few men are shirtless but no overt male or female nudity.
  • One couple makes love and is shown in a compromising position. We see his back and her legs, however, there is no explicit nudity.

Violence & Gore

  • Only one scene of gruesome violence with a knife that lasts a few minutes and is bloody. Most of the scenes are of two men arguing while others push them away to break it up and keep the peace.
  • A man and a woman slap each other on the dance floor.
  • A man threatens another man with a cleaver.
  • In a drive-by shooting several people, including children, are shot to death. In another scene a man shoots another man in the chest.
  • A few gangster style scenes of people being shot down with machine guns.
  • A group of men beat up man who insults them and flush his head down the toilet.
  • A man pulls out a gun but it's knocked out of his hands.

Profanity

  • Some F words, the C word, and a lot of racial slurs and other curses.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Lots of drinking. Several people are inebriated at different points in the movie.
  • A humorous reference to cocain in one of the songs.
  • A lot of smoking including cigarettes and cigars.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The movie is fairly intense due to the ever present threat of mob violence, unbridled machismo and racial tensions during 1920's - 1930's.
