The latest trailer for "Deadpool & Wolverine" suggests the movie might be even more of a cameo-fest than we'd previously predicted.
Hugh Jackman is back as Logan, of course, and he's bringing leftover characters from the erstwhile 20th Century Fox's Marvel Universe. We already knew Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Pyro (Aaron Stanford), and Toad would be back. So will Wolverine's archenemy Sabretooth, perhaps finally giving Logan a chance at closure.
Around the 1:50 minute mark of the new trailer, you were probably focused on the decapitated head of a Giant Man variant (his rotting skull concealed within his ant-styled helmet). I'm much more curious about the characters standing beneath this makeshift base, who look to be familiar (mutant) faces from previous "X-Men" films: Yuriko Oyama/Lady Deathstrike from "X2" and Azazel from "X-Men: First Class."
Both are seen at too far a distance to determine if their previous actors...

Before video games truly advanced, the arcade was where it was at. Much like Saturday morning cartoons, it’s one of those obsolete ideas from the past where you get why it’s gone, but damn if it didn’t represent some wonderful times. Arcade games seemed like the zenith of what a video game could look and feel like. Consoles were great and all, but you knew that if you were getting a port of an arcade classic for your 8-bit or 16-bit system, you weren’t getting the full package.
One of the genres that truly felt like the soul of the arcade experience was the beat ‘em up. The idea that you, a couple of friends, or even some complete strangers could join together at a cabinet and go on a trek to beat up as many enemy thugs as possible until you either ran out of quarters and couldn’t continue,...

This was a lot of fun and I am not concerned to admit that my enjoyment of this really caught me off guard. I get sucked into anything with ‘Weapon X’ in the title and sometimes in the past that has burned me. But wow this was so much fun! That is high praise indeed seeing as it doesn’t really involve any alternate Wolverines I hold a soft spot for. Okay Old Man Logan is tried and tested, but I feel he has been overused. Here he is presented perfectly as like a Lethal Weapon ‘I’m too old for this shit’ Wolverine. Then we have Weapon X from Age of Apocalypse. That four-issue mini-series is a massive blind spot for me, but I am certainly tracking it down after reading this. In this story...

Deadline reports a new sports documentary is being planned for kickboxing champion and martial arts movie star Benny “The Jet” Urquidez. The names associated with the production almost seems like a bingo announcer called out randomly drawn names from my favorite childhood movies. Keanu Reeves, who himself is no stranger to the martial arts world and action genre, has partnered with Fisher Stevens, who is known for projects like Short Circuit 1 & 2 and Hackers, to produce the documentary on Urquidez, whom I’ve talked about before on my Dragons Forever retrospective.
The documentary, which is titled The Jet, is currently in production with the Emmy-nominated sports documentary editor turned filmmaker, Jennifer Tiexiera, directing the film. Tiexiera has most recently also directed a three-part series for HBO called Unveiled: Surviving La Luz del Mundo, which has also recently been nominated for an Emmy in the catagory of Outstanding Crime and Justice Documentary.

So far this series has not missed a beat. Providing action packed entertainment whilst flirting around the edges of Wolverines extensive existing continuity. I was interested to see if this issue could keep up that consistent run as it ties closely to such n important moment from Wolverine’s past; that being the Weapon X experiment. The Wednesday Warrior in me wasn’t entirely comfortable with this story weaving into the timeline of the classic story arc. We get a combined five pages bookending the Weapon X stuff and I think this goes a long way to the issue not depending on that completely. If you ignore the nagging question of when this would actually occur during the experiment and enjoy it for what it is this is very fun,...

In the mid-eighties, Jackie Chan was the biggest star in Asia. After failing to break out like Bruce Lee in the North American market, he focused on Asia, with his film Police Story making him one of the biggest box office draws of his day. At the same time, Chan was frequently working with two other action stars, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao, with whom he had been raised at the brutal Peking Opera School. Their movies, Project A and Wheels on Meals, where big hits, but 1988’s Dragons Forever was the breaking point for their relationship, with them never again headlining a film together. What happened?
Part of it may have been jealousy and a heavy dose of ego. At the time, Chan was the biggest star to emerge from Hong Kong since Bruce Lee. While the late seventies and early eighties were good for him, leaving to a string of popular hits,...

Little good came out of "X-Men: Apocalypse." The preceding film "Days of Future Past" was meant to be a fresh start for the Merry Mutants. Instead, director Bryan Singer was exposed as creatively bankrupt; "Apocalypse" rehashes beats from Singer's previous movies like a "greatest hits" compilation. Singer always had little interest in the source material comics and "Apocalypse" showed he was out of his depth trying to make an "X-Men" movie that felt more like them.
This feeling of running on fumes, juxtaposed with a comical misuse of Oscar Isaac's talents, meant "Apocalypse" was the beginning of the end for 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" movies, not a new dawn. It's certainly when their spell over me ended.
The post-credits scene of "X-Men: Apocalypse" in particular is pointless. Its very inclusion was Fox taking a page from rival Marvel Studios, but the sequel set-up doesn't pay off.

Director Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" was designed to usher in a shiny new era for Fox's "X-Men" films. After the studio's original mutant trilogy came to an ignominious end in 2006 with "X-Men: The Last Stand" (a film that saw alleged sexual harasser Brett Ratner replace alleged sexual predator Bryan Singer at the helm), Fox decided to soft reboot the franchise by making a prequel film about Hugh Jackman's Man With the Adamantium Claws. "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" even teed up potential spinoffs by introducing Ryan Reynolds as a pre-Deadpool Wade Wilson and Taylor Kitsch as the Ragin' Cajun himself, the smooth-talking, card-chucking thief Remy LeBeau, better known as Gambit.
Pulling what we'd now call a "Black Adam," Hood's prequel did indeed change the hierarchy of Fox's X-Men Universe ... just not in the way it intended. The film's negative critical response and middling box office turnout led to...

Jackie Chan is about to get a major new collection from Criterion, with the prestige label announcing a new set called Jackie Chan: Emergence of a Superstar. The set will contain a few of Chan’s early classics, including Fearless Hyena (and its sequel) and The Young Master, as well as a later film, My Lucky Stars, and a pair of his earliest vehicles, Half a Loaf of Kung Fu and Spiritual Kung Fu. Fans of Chan’s may be scratching their heads at a few of the titles, as outside of Young Master and Fearless Hyena, none of the films included in the set are considered his best work.
It seems like rights issues are keeping legit early classics like Drunken Master off the set, with the most puzzling choice being to include Fearless Hyena 2, which is really little more than a curiosity for fans. Chan notoriously quit...

It can seem like "superhero movie" is an automatic greenlight in Hollywood these days. Yet, the genre is still littered with unrealized projects.
One is "X-Men Origins: Magneto." True to its title, it would've chronicled the early years of the X-Men's arch-foe. If any Marvel villain could sustain an origin movie, it's Magneto, who has one of the boldest backstories in superhero comics. In the 1980s, "X-Men" comic writer Chris Claremont desired to revitalize Magneto, to make him "a more credible adversary, but also a more credible person." That meant offering a reason for why he believed in mutant supremacy. Claremont considered what was known about Magneto and struck upon brilliance:
"Magneto had to have come to adolescence, and possibly come of age, in the Second World War. And he certainly looked European. And what would have given him such an extreme attitude toward mutant-human relations? [...] The next corollary was,...

Deadpool: Badder Blood has taken Rob Liefeld on a long road. The writer and artist crafted the opening pages in late 2017 — but then he and Marvel agreed to detour to other things — including work celebrating anniversaries of Deadpool and X-Force.
All along, Liefeld has kept the ideas for Badder Blood alive. And nearly six years later, the first of five issues is finally in comic book shops.
Badder Blood is a sequel to Deadpool: Bad Blood, which broke ground by showing Wade Wilson (Aka Deapdool) as a middle schooler, setting up a friendship between Wade and a boy who eventually would become the antagonist Thumper later in life.
The series heavily features Thumper, who gained his powers by attempting to follow in Wade Wilson’s footsteps in the Weapon X program. In Badder Blood, he has become such a big threat that it will require an assortment of characters to help contain him.

X2: X-Men United Adapted The God Loves, Man Kills Marvel Comic Arc, But It's Missing One Key Element
"X2: X-Men United" was released 20 years ago, and it remains easily the best of the original "X-Men" trilogy and one of the first hints that superhero movies were a Hollywood heavyweight. Even so, "X2" isn't free of the sin that many adaptations commit. Namely, not honoring the source material's spirit.
The most influential "X-Men" writer is Chris Claremont. He wrote the series from 1975 to 1991, rescuing the comic from obscurity in the process. He also gave the setting the political backbone for which it's now known. Stan Lee retroactively claimed he based Professor X and Magneto on Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, but read his "X-Men" stories and you won't find credence for that or much of a bite at all. Lee was, in the words of "Marvel Comics: The Untold Story" author Sean Howe, "a master fence-sitter."
Claremont, though, had a firmer spine. Magneto being a Holocaust survivor?...

In the wake of Tim Burton's "Batman" movies, Alan Moore's "Watchmen" and "Swamp Thing" run, and the subsequent rise of grim, violent characters like the Punisher and Spawn, X-Men stalwart Wolverine became one of the most popular characters around. With his metal retractable claws, ever-present cigar, and berserker rage mode, he seemed more suited to the moment than some of his more goody-goody mutant hero cohorts. It's safe to say that in the '90s, he was probably the most beloved comics character not to have a movie yet. In part, Hollywood was torn: should they make a Wolverine solo film first, or go full-on X-Men? The majority of superhero movies up to that point featured singular heroes in worlds where no others existed. A team film, then, might stretch credulity with audiences used to suspending disbelief only as far as one.
Well, "X-Men" came out in 2000, and...

With John Wick: Chapter 4 exploding at the box office and Donnie Yen experience a new wave of popularity in North American, now’s the time to look at another of the movie’s stars who’s been around for a long time but is consistently underrated. Of course, that man is the great Scott Adkins! Those who know him, love him. With over 70 movies to his credit, the man has been in at least one thing everyone has seen, from Doctor Strange to X-Men Origins: Wolverine (as Weapon X), The Pink Panther, and so many more, He has been in something for everyone. For us, the highlights of his career are not necessarily the obvious titles when glancing at his resume.
Here are our some of our favorite Scott Adkins movies:
The Expendables 2 (2012)
Admittedly not as good as the first film, The Expendables 2 did bring a few good villains to the screen.

When "John Wick" dropkicked its way into theaters in 2014, it raised the bar on U.S. action films but didn't quite feel like a total game changer at the time. Keanu Reeves as the sympathetic rogue assassin was undeniably cool and relatable without reaching instant icon status. The gun-fu interplay felt fresh and exciting with clear influences from Hong Kong cinema that most audiences were already at least somewhat familiar with. Director John Woo, for example, imported his unique blend of action and artistry with the shoot 'em up classics "The Killer" and "Hardboiled," introducing international audiences to a rebirth of cool in hitman movies that also had a soul.
Fast forward to "John Wick: Chapter 4." Reeves, director Chad Stahelski and the entire creative and technical teams have taken all of their influences from some of the greatest choreographers and martial artists to truly transcend the action genre. At nearly three hours long,...

This week I bring you a review for the latest of The Beast Agenda in Wolverine #29 plus a retro review from Wolverine comics past. The reason for the retro review is that I missed a Wolverine comic this month! My credentials are slipping! I only found out on the day it came out that the one-shot Murderworld: Wolverine even existed. I contacted my Lcs right away, unfortunately they didn’t have one to send out in the post but they’ve ordered me one for next month. So I booted up the random number generated and I was relatively happy with the issue it spat out.

Every kid of a certain age grew up wanting to be Jackie Chan. A legend in Hong Kong and most of the world from the late-seventies on, Jackie Chan also, at long last, became a superstar in North America after the release of his 1996 classic Rumble in the Bronx. Supercop, First Strike and more dubbed versions of his Hong Kong movies would follow, but it was 1998’s Rush Hour, which paired him with Chris Tucker, that made him a phenomenon in the United States. It was as if, at long last, the United States was let in on a secret the rest of the world already knew.

Any conversation about action cinema has to include the name Jackie Chan. It's a legal requirement. He's far from the only action star, but his accomplishments and influence on the genre are undeniable. While Chan's earliest films saw producers trying to make him into the next Bruce Lee, Chan found his own footing in the late '70s by blending creative choreography with humor. He's never looked back. From one of the best fight scenes of all time in "Wheels on Meals" (1984) to the epic stunts in "Armour of God II: Operation Condor" (1991) to blockbuster Hollywood efforts like "Rush Hour" (1998), Chan is the action star.

It is everything I was expecting previously with regards to X-Force crossover, with Percy penning both titles. Think of it as X-Force filler more than a solo Wolverine story. Maybe I...

This past weekend we lost a well loved and well-respected member of the comics community. John Paul Leon has pulled his chair up to the great drawing board in the sky. Taken way too young at the age of 49 after a battle with cancer. As always with these memoriam pieces I do the out pouring of fellow pros on who knew John and bigger fans of his work can say things about him a million times better than me on social media. I can confess to not knowing a great deal of his career but I can tell he was a very talented guy, who was had a huge fan base and respect from his peers. As always in times like this the comics community shows its true colours on social media and it gives people like me a better understanding of the person and you do feel the lose...

Wolverine #11 Writer: Benjamin Percy | Artist: Scot Eaton | Inker: Jp Mayer | Colourist: Matthew Wilson | Letters: Cory Petit
So after the tenth issue milestone we pick up again with the vampire/Omega Red story line which could left behind with ‘X of Swords’ and then the recent Maverick arc. #5 was in fact when Wolverine tangled with his Russian foe and the Vampire Nation. As I have stated before (many times I’m sure) Percy writes a brilliant internal monologue for Wolverine. In the opening four pages he uses it to brilliant effect to deliver a fast paced, straight to the point catch the reader up on this plot thread from #5. All accompanied but Eaton’s Wolverine on the hunt art work. In these four pages there is no wasted story telling. There must have been a dozen or so X-Men/Wolverine/Vampire stories of the years. While his previous features “The Big Boss” and “Fist of Fury” had established Bruce Lee’s fame in his home country as well as overseas, the two roles also gave him the influence and financial means to start his own production company and finally have the kind of control he had always wanted about the projects he was interested in. Their company’s first project and Lee’s debut as a director was to be “Way of the Dragon”, a movie which, despite its tight budget, introduced movie audiences to a style that would become famous for an entire generation of martial arts-actors such as Jackie Chan and Jet Li. On the outside a typical feature of the genre, including the fight of the good guy against an evil boss and his henchmen, it also combines action sequences, artful fight choreographies as well as a specific kind of Hong Kong...

Hugh Jackman may have bowed out in equally graceful and spectacular fashion as Wolverine, with Logan quickly gaining a well deserved reputation as one of the greatest comic book movies ever made, but even with the actor drawing a line under his career-defining tenure as the iconic character, there still appeared to be a future for adamantium-infused mutants under the Fox banner.
Dafne Keen’s Laura was the crux of Logan‘s plot, with the young actress giving an incredible breakout performance that saw her comfortably stand toe to toe with Jackman’s grizzled warrior, and soon after James Mangold’s blockbuster was released to widespread critical acclaim and almost $620 million at the box office, it was announced that the filmmaker was in the early stages of developing a spinoff for X-23.

When I first read this issue I found it a pretty solid read. But when it came to doing the review and I was flipping through it, it raised a few questions and is a tad confusing. Basically the issue picks up the second of the stories started in the double sized first issue. However the opening pages show Wolverine debriefing with the ‘X big wigs’ after the mission in the previous issue. Maybe there is some bridging material within the pages of X-Force also penned by Percy. Or maybe I am over thinking everything. To me it is comics 101. The story within each issue can be part of a larger story but it has to be more clear cut. The timelines are a little off. That said the opening pages are a very fun interaction between Wolverine and Magneto.

There’s already been no shortage of rumors and theories about how Deadpool will eventually make his debut in the McU, but one thing most people would agree that they definitely don’t want to see is another origin story. After all, having made over $780 million at the box office, the majority of fans already saw it happen in Fox’s first installment, not to mention the fact that a self-aware character showing up in a new franchise at a different studio doesn’t really need one to justify his existence.
Of course, the McU has always been a staunchly family-friendly enterprise, so there could well be an entire generation of younger viewers who don’t know anything about Deadpool, and while the in-development threequel most likely won’t depict Wade Wilson’s full-blown origins again, we’re hearing that the studio could be retconning Weapon X to reveal a...

So being in a pandemic is not fun! I decided right at the start that writing a blog about the often staggering prices of comics seemed inconsequential compared to real world events. Comics do have a great ability to be social commentary, whilst at the same time offering the ultimate in escapism. With the world doing its best to stay positive and return to normal, or the new normal, I decided to get back in saddle of all things eBay and comics related. With the time away it has allowed me to re-evalute what eBuying Comics can be and to cut of the fat and get it down to a lean, green fighting machine. I will be easing myself back in in this instalment talking about which features of eBuying Comics will be staying and how they will be adapted or upgraded. It has been so long since I read the first issue of the new Wolverine ongoing perhaps I should have gone back and read it before these two issues arrived in the post! If memory serves me correctly the first issue was double sized and set up two story arcs. The first being about ‘The Flower Cartel’ and the second something to do with vampires. The second and third issues deal with ‘The Flower Cartel’ story arc and rather surprisingly in this modern era are wrapped up within three issues! Shocking I know. Also I don’t know how much this story arc ties into the events of X-Force which is also penned by Percy. A few days ago, we learned that Deadpool 3 will be a prequel set earlier in the McU timeline. Although little is yet known about the project – save for the fact that the character’s creator Rob Liefeld is seemingly being left out of the production by Disney – we’ve now heard that not only will the film be a prequel, but it’ll change the antihero’s origin story a little bit as well. Or at least, change it from what we saw in the Fox movies.
That story, for the record, was first laid out in the original Deadpool. Released in 2016, it presented a version of the character who after discovering he suffers from an aggressive and seemingly incurable cancer, agrees to undergo an experiment that ends up changing his life for better and for worse at the same time. Despite what Rob Liefeld might be saying, Deadpool 3 is in the works over at Disney. Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth will be brought over from the Fox franchise and folded into the McU and while Wade Wilson’s meta humor and fourth wall-breaking antics mean it won’t break the world to drop him into the Marvel universe, the character will still require some tweaks. Including, it seems, a brand new origin story.
Sources close to Wgtc – the same ones who’ve previously told us that the Guardians will cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder and that Ryan Reynolds had a secret role in Hobbs & Shaw – say that Deadpool 3 will actually be a prequel. With the world of comics slowly returning to normal, or the new normal at least I thought I would do what all great comics do and do a crossover. So in this installment of both Wolverine Wednesday and eBuying Comics I will be taking you on a whistle stop tour through my collecting history, the valuations of key Wolverine issues, which collected editions are good starting points for new readers and where to find them cheaply as well as me embarking on some new Wolverine comic hunts post lockdown.
I have wanted to do a price comparison and valuation of my key Wolverine issues for some time now. I see a lot of collectors on Youtube and Instagram Stateside picking up bargains and I wonder if I am paying over the odds here in the UK. One of biggest regrets about my collecting is that I have never kept a record of my earlier days.

A couple of months back, we learned that a Wolverine vs. Hulk movie has entered early development at Marvel Studios but full details about the crossover were sketchy. Now, however, it seems the project has started to take shape as a notable McU leaker has just posted what he claims is inside info on its plot and supporting cast.
According to tipster Mikey Sutton, the film will take place in snowy Canada and introduce Wolvie to the McU as a wanted man, having escaped from the Weapon X project with the help of the X-Men. Apparently, Canada’s very own Avengers equivalent, Alpha Flight, will be hot on the mutant’s tail, as will the Hulk.
Sutton goes on to say that the McU’s Alpha Flight will be comprised of Vindicator, Northstar, Aurora, Puck, Sasquatch, Shaman and Snowbird. Moreover, he claims that Marvel is considering spinning the superhero team...

Marvel Studios are hard at work on bringing Wolverine into the McU, but it’s going to be a while before we hear that familiar *snikt* in a film. That doesn’t mean we’re short of claw-related badassery to enjoy though, as YouTuber James Hobson (aka The Hacksmith) has just proved. Now known for his recreations of various pieces of movie hardware, including Batman’s grappling gun, Thor’s Stormbreaker, Star Wars’ lightsabers and Iron Man’s Gauntlet, he got his start recreating Wolverine’s claws from the X-Men movies.
His first set of claws were built in 2009 as part of an internship but since then, his construction skills have vastly improved. So, to mark more than a decade of doing this, why not go back to Wolverine and try again? But there’s a twist, as this time he’s doing the ‘bone claws.’

Marvel Studios regained the screen rights to some of its most famous characters when parent company Disney completed its acquisition of Fox, but few of them can claim to be more iconic than Wolverine. During these uncertain times for everyone and the comics industry I want to wish everyone positive vibes and say we will all come out of this stronger. Now a lot of people are doing comics reading recommendations the #Ntycbd ) New To You Comic Book Day is proving rather popular on social media. For Wolverine Wednesday rather than compiling an ultimate reading list of Wolverine comics (I might need to do that months down the line)! I thought I would look at a Wolverine prose novel.
Over the years I have had mixed responses to comics characters appearing in prose novels. In the 90′s prose novels based on Marvel characters were ten a penny and there seems to be some resurgence in recent years. The trouble I find with the latter is that they tend to be based on popular comic book stories like Avengers: Breakout and The Death of Captain America.

Moviegoers have now seen Captain Marvel team up with a range of heroes on the big screen, from Captain America to Thor to Spider-Man to a bunch of her fellow heroines. But did you know that Carol Danvers and Wolverine go way back in the comics? It’s true, and the unlikely duo’s history will be revisited in an upcoming issue, with the cover of Captain Marvel #17 – due out this April – teasing Carol and Logan fighting side by side once again.
The pair’s friendship actually goes back to Carol’s origins in the Marvel universe. She debuted in 1968’s Marvel Super-Heroes #13, by Roy Thomas and Gene Colan, as a government agent for the Air Force Intelligence. In this capacity, Carol worked alongside many familiar faces, such as Nick Fury and Logan. Both then went their separates ways, as Carol gained Kree powers and Logan became involved with the Weapon X program.

After decades lost in the darkest corners of video distribution, on samizdat VHS tapes haphazardly dubbed and cropped, or edited by companies like Miramax and even less reputable organizations, the 21st century has been pretty good for the classics of Chinese-language cinema. At least, for those films in the kung fu genre, kickstarted by Celestial Pictures remastering and restoring the original audio of much of the 60s and 70s Shaw Brothers library in the early 2000s. This has led in turn to a growing recognition in the West of the work of directors like Lau Kar-leung and Chang Cheh, thanks to quality releases through imprints like the Weinsteins' sadly defunct Dragon Dynasty label. Recently the U.K. company Eureka Video has picked up where they left off, releasing restored version of 80s and 90s classics like the Police Story (1985), Project A (1983) and Once Upon a Time in China (1991–7) movies,...

Raymond Chow, the man credited with introducing the world to Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, has died at the age of 91, according to the Associated Press.
Chow, also responsible for bringing “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” to the big screen, was the founder and chairman of Golden Harvest Company, which released hundreds of martial arts films — especially during the golden era of Hong Kong filmmaking — including the seminal Lee-led “Enter the Dragon,” as well as Chan’s “Police Story.”
In a statement to the AP, Hong Kong secretary for commerce and economic development, Edward Yau, said that Chow “helped nurture a pool of Hong Kong talents and brought them to the international stage.”
