A magical memory from childhood - maybe that's what makes it so good. We used to be forced to watch this at school every year before Christmas holidays, but nowadays I'd do it voluntarily ... This story is about war from a child's point of view. Nothing to compare with Pans Labyrinth, but certainly a fairytale making wartime a problem of mankind, wild nature having it's own ongoing war with survival. A famous Finnish dancer Jorma Uotinen is playing the spider - I still get the chills in my spine from his dance. While the actors playing animals may look clumsy and unreal, I feel that they portray their images wonderfully. Are there fairies? After watching this piece of Finnish history I truly believe so. If anyone knows how to get a copy, I'd be much obliged...
