Victor J. Kemper, the veteran cinematographer who shot more than 50 features, including Dog Day Afternoon, Eyes of Laura Mars, The Jerk and Slap Shot, has died. He was 96.
Kemper died Monday of natural causes in Sherman Oaks, his son, Steven Kemper, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Kemper earned his inaugural D.P. credit on Husbands (1970), written and directed by John Cassavetes, then shot Elia Kazan’s final feature, The Last Tycoon (1976) and Tim Burton’s first, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985).
Kemper also did six films for director Arthur Hiller — The Tiger Makes Out (1967), The Hospital (1971), Author! Author! (1982), The Lonely Guy (1984), See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989) and Married to It (1991) — and three in a row for Carl Reiner: Oh God! (1977), The One and Only (1978) and The Jerk (1979).

Exclusive: Music Box Films has acquired the documentary library of prolific Oscar nominated producer/director Mark Mori, and has set four of the films to stream on Music Box Direct and major digital platforms later this month. The acquisition aligns with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ recent invitation to Mori to deposit his film and television master catalog in the Academy’s library.
The deal also marks the first time Mori’s most notable films will be available through a singular North American distributor and includes decades of films and series, from 1989 through to 2012.
Mori, an Oscar nominee for 1989’s Building Bombs in the Best Documentary Feature category, brings his catalog to Music Box following the company’s successful distribution of one of his recent feature docs, Bettie Page Reveals All.

Billy Goldenberg, the Emmy-winning composer and songwriter, died Monday night at his home in New York City. He was 84.
Goldenberg wrote the themes for such 1970s TV series as “Kojak,” “Harry O” and “Rhoda,” composed the pilot scores for “Night Gallery” and “Columbo,” and won Emmys for the TV-movie “Queen of the Stardust Ballroom” and miniseries “The Lives of Benjamin Franklin,” “King” and “Rage of Angels.”
He expanded his 1975 “Queen of the Stardust Ballroom” song score, with lyricists Marilyn and Alan Bergman, into the score of the 1978 Broadway musical “Ballroom,” directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett of “A Chorus Line” fame. It earned eight Tony nominations including Best Musical.

Investigation Discovery documentary The Atlanta Child Murders revisits investigation into the murders of 22 children.
"It's 10 p.m., do you know where your children are," Georgia TV broadcast stations asked at the end of the 1970s. The 1979–1981 Atlanta Child Murders claimed the lives of at least 28 children, adolescents, and adults. Twenty-three-year old Atlanta native Wayne Williams was arrested and convicted for two of the adult murders during the two-year spree. He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms. Officials will re-evaluate evidence in the Atlanta Child Murders case, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced on Thursday, March 21. The Atlanta Police Department will re-test 22 murder cases which which have been deemed cold cases since 1981. The cases are the subject of the upcoming documentary The Atlanta Child Murders, which premieres Saturday, March 23 on Investigation Discovery.

The Vanguard Award is a group honor for a film’s cast and director in recognition of their collective work on an exceptional film project. Actors Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali as well as director Peter Farrelly are expected to attend.
“Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali are an on-camera dream team in the crowd-pleasing film ‘Green Book,’ inspired by a true friendship, about a New York City bouncer hired to drive and protect pianist Dr. Don Shirley on a concert tour in the Deep South,” said festival chairman Harold Matzner.

Susan Cabral-Ebert and Robert Louis Stevenson are set to receive Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards next year. The duo will accept their hardware February 16 at Muahs’ annual awards ‘do at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
The outgoing president of Muahs (Iatse Local 706), four-time Emmy nominee Cabral-Ebert joined the guild at a time when it just was beginning to allow women as makeup artists. After working on such popular TV series as Dallas, La Law and ER, she transitioned to films and worked primarily as Department Head on The Perfect Storm, Erin Brockovich, Pleasantville, Dead Poets Society and dozens of others. After 25 years on the sets, she was hired in 2002 as the Assistant Business Representative for Local 706 while she was Vice President and soon afterward was elected President — an office she has held for five terms.
