• Rocky Dennis : [Ben shows up at Rocky's house to tell him he's leaving for good to Michigan for a job with his dad he got applied to]  Hey Ben, what's happening?

  Rocky Dennis : Ok. You want some cake?

  Ben : No.

  Rocky Dennis : You sure? My mom made it. It's actually pretty good.

  Ben : No thanks.

  Rocky Dennis : You want something to drink?

  Ben : Mmm-mmm.

  Rocky Dennis : Found a noose to hang yourself. What's the matter, Ben?

  Ben : I've been wanting to tell you this for a while.

  Rocky Dennis : Well, what?

  Ben : Rock... . I'm going back to my Dad's in Michigan. He got me a job there. It's great money.

  Rocky Dennis : When are you coming back?

  Ben : I'm not coming back.

  Rocky Dennis : What do you mean, Ben?

  Ben : I'll go nuts if I have to stay here. I mean, my mom, the school. So I quit. Look, I can work back there. I'll be making 7.50 an hour.

  Ben : I'm sorry, Rocky. Look, you can keep the money.

  Rocky Dennis : I don't want the freaking money, Ben. I wanna go to Europe. What about our trip, huh? Huh? How can you do this, Ben? This is all we've talked about for a year.

  Ben : That's all you talked about!

  Rocky Dennis : That's BULLSHIT, man! You talked about it too and you know it!

  Ben : I didn't know that. I'm sorry. I didn't mean that.

  Rocky Dennis : You know what you mean, didn't you, Ben? You know why? Because you're stupid! You are so stupid, Ben!

  Rusty Dennis : Rocky!

  [Rocky slams the door and rips one of the cards he gave him] 

  Rocky Dennis : Rube Walker, man! I call you a Rube Walker!

  Ben : [Sobs]  Look, take it easy.

  Rocky Dennis : No more, Ben. No more taking it easy! I...

  Rusty Dennis : Rocky, stop it!

  Rocky Dennis : Get out of here, Ben.

  [Their friendship ends for good, a sad Ben leaves] 

• [after an unpleasant visit with the grandparents, Rusty is about to take a lot of drugs] 

  Gar : [gets a beer from fridge]  If you're gonna get wasted on that crap, I'm not gonna hang around here and babysit you.

  Rusty Dennis : [scoffs]  You must be confusing me with someone who gives a shit.

  Gar : I must be.

  Rusty Dennis : [looks at drugs, Gar and shakes her head]  You know, this is not going to work. I'm doing things to please you and I'm just gonna end up hating you.

  Gar : Oh come on, Baby. You and your old man have been going through this shit forever. Got to you again, didn't he? Got you ready for another one of those two-hour screamers. Gets you to the place where I'm gonna put you through the goddamned wall.

  Rusty Dennis : [snaps back]  Well, Go ahead. Put me through the goddamned wall, then! Why should you be any different than any other guy I've been with?

  Gar : [clonks beer bottle down on table and leaves her]
