Sex & Nudity

  • No nudity or sex scene. A man and a woman kiss a couple of times.
  • A woman pretends to have STDs to avoid being sold to sexual slavery. Played for laughs.
  • Female slavery is a theme in the film. Nothing sexual is shown but the implications are strongly suggestive.

Violence & Gore

  • Most of the movie takes place in a fictional African country that's going through civil war where there are many shootouts, air raids, rocket launches and explosions.
  • Two females are kidnapped at gun point.
  • The film is mostly devoid of blood and gore, but some scenes feature characters being caught in explosions and being set on fire. Bodies can be seen in the aftermath of action scenes.
  • In a rare gruesome moment in the film, a minor character is killed when they slide down a trap of four sharp blades before their remains land in a den of lions. The camera cuts away before it happens. Later, there are close-ups of the dismembered corpse, covered in blood and being eaten by the lions. Quite graphic.

Profanity

  • Constant strong language throughout the film, including many uses of 'sh*t'.
  • In a comical scene, Jake counts down using five fingers, saving his middle finger for last and using it to flip off his enemies (at 01:03:41 mark).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Many scenes in bars with characters smoking and drinking.
  • Jake Speed's associate smokes in some scenes.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Aside from the opening scene, which features a realistic kidnapping, the rest of the film is mostly lighthearted and fun. It's recollective of classic pulp adventure novels like 'Doc Savage' or 'The Shadow'.
  • The villain, Sid (played by John Hurt), is a white slaver. The character while campy, is played straight as a homicidal psychopath with violent urges. His scenes can be a little tense.
