Jackie Shroff shaved off his mustache for the film.
Producer Romesh Sharma wanted 24 lakhs per territory. When Jackie Shroff and Bapu's film Mera Dharam flopped, he had to sell Diljalaa for 12 lakhs per territory.
In the song "Aapko Agar Zaroorat Hai" in Hatya (1988), the phrase "Take Take Take" gets composed as another melodious song in film Diljalaa (1987) as "Jaan Tan Se, Tan Jaan Se".
Director Bapu kept insisting to Romesh Sharma to sign Madhuri Dixit for the film. The reason being Bapu and Anil Kapoor had approached Farha for a film in the past . Bapu felt Farha was disrespectful by not showing any courtesy or manners when they met. Anil and Bapu met Farha in a hotel to discuss a film. Farha did not stand up when Bapu entered the room etc. Farha always blamed Anil Kapoor for the misunderstanding. Romesh Sharma kept telling Bapu he wanted Farha for Diljalaa and he would not change her. Eventually Bapu gave in and slowly warmed up to Farha after she performed a emotional scene in the film.
Romesh Sharma saw Jackie Shroff's bonding with Bapu during making of Mera Dharam. It was there that he signed both for Diljala.
