This past week at the D23 Disney Exposition Event, a ton of news regarding the future of Disney franchises was unveiled including the announcement that a Big Hero 6 world will be featured in Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts III.
With the inclusion of Tangled and Big Hero 6 in Sora’s latest adventure, the speculation of which other Disney franchises could join in on the fun is running wild. Let’s take a look at some of the Disney films that would fit well in the universe of Kingdom Hearts.
We won’t be including acquired franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel, Studio Ghibli or the Muppets neither will we be including Pixar films or else the list would be never ending! Rather let’s focus on Disney films which have a big fanbase or a fitting aesthetic that have unfortunately been omitted in previous installments of Kingdom Hearts.

Disney goes back to the drawing board for this hand-animated, musical spin on the brothers Grimm's classic fairytale The Frog Prince. Down in New Orleans, a voodoo hoodoo turns a visiting prince into a frog - and only a kiss from a princess can lift the curse. Unfortunately, a case of mistaken identity merely drags a hard-working waitress into his slimy predicament.

Nearly every Disney animated film is adapted in some form or another from a classic tale. Frequently they will stay true to the source material, but in order to make family friendly movies from “grim” tales, sometimes big changes are in order. These can be beneficial to the film and story, or sometimes just to tag on a cheap happy ending despite the effect it has upon the overall story; often they are solely to allow the potential of a sequel. No matter what the cause, a change is made.
In some cases, it is just the endings that have changed. Take The Lion King, for example. It is an almost perfect recreation of Shakespeare’s classic Macbeth. The only change being that the characters are part of the animal kingdom as opposed to human beings – except for one slight detail. At the end of Macbeth, everyone dies.

This week sees the release of Bryan Singer's "Jack the Giant Slayer," which has survived a long delay, conversion to 3-D, and a retitling (Jack was originally a "Giant Killer"), but now must face its biggest trial by fire: The Audience.
The rather old-fashioned children's adventure feel of "Jack" is going to feel rather old-hat in comparison to the flurry of fairy tale films that film-goers have been bludgeoned with in recent years, mostly because it doesn't offer much of an ironic or modernized spin on the fable.
Maybe that's a good thing?
Let's take a look back at some past films that really took our childhood favorites in edgier, sexier directions.
'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters' (2013)
What They Changed: Well, it's not so much what they changed but what they extrapolated on. After the title brother and sister have their famous encounter at the gingerbread house,...
