OK Cheesy B Grade Comedy Movie
monkey-man26 February 2006
He's My Girl (1987).

This movies about two friends Bryan (David Hallyday) and Reggie (T.K. Carter) and Bryan is a singer and Reggie is his Manager. And one day Reggie is watching t.v and there is a competition for a trip to LA to aper on a popular music TV show so Reggie enters Bryan into the competition. And Bryan wins the competition and he wants to bring Reggie with him but he can not go because Bryan must bring a woman.Reggie then decides to pose as a woman so he can go to LA with Bryan.

This movie is crap and it is really cheesy but i still think that it is an OK b grade movie. And i have seen way worse movies then this movie like Bloody Wednesday (1985) and Jack Frost 2: Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman (2000).

Over all this movie is a guilty pleasure and it should not be taken seriously it is just a cheesy fun movie. And if u hate cheesy b grade movies you should stay away from this movie and u have to like cheesy b grade movies to like this movie. My rating for this movie is five stars out of ten stars.

Priddy good Tootsie take-off
buckaroobanzai509 December 2003
A coupla posters have slagged this off, but it isn't really that bad. It has obviously been inspired by Hoffman's Tootsie film, and adds a new spin on the genre, if I can call it a genre. TK Carter's pretty funny with his over the top impressions and rubber faced expressions. And, it is refreshing to see some black actors in a love story.

Tasty Tasha!!

The usual role swap story, but you may tolerate it for TK Carter's performance. (spoilers)
vertigo_148 January 2005
He' My Girl is yet another one of those role-switching 80s comedies. An aspiring rock stars' manager (Carter) invests his clients money in six hundred entries into a contest whereby the selected winner will win a trip to L.A. for a week. They'll get to meet washed up pop rocker, Simon Sledge. The duo look at the contest as the perfect opportunity to get Brian (the aspiring rocker) recognized since he'll be around all of the industry hot shots. But, the catch is, that the contest requires that the winner bring a date, and the only way Brian's manager will get to go is--you guessed it--by dressing up as a woman.

It's the usual role-switching comedy and follows the same tired story line. The manager is a little too cocky and finds a girlfriend while he's out of disguise. Meanwhile, Brian, too, falls in love. And the two start to find it quite difficult to keep up the charade. The ending was a bit funnier than the rest of the movie, but you've been warned, expect the same old, same old. It even has that peppy 80s intro credits.

But, this comedy is recommended for you if you love performances by TK Carter. If you do, you're in for a real treat since he basically steals the show (what an underrated actor). Other than that, this movie is nothing remotely special.

Why did I rent this???
Here's one that's so bad, you'll spend serious time trying to figure out how anyone would think it's funny. If you're writing a thesis on "how to do it wrong" starting with a bad idea, here's one for you. Otherwise, you're likely to think of asking for your money back.

Probably one of the worst movies ever made in history ever.
coconutz23 December 2011
I used to watch this movie because it came on all the on HBO in the 80's when I was 5 or 6 years old. I didn't realize just how bad it was and forgot all about this piece of sh*t movie until 20 something years later when it appeared on netflix. I watched it for nostalgic reasons. It was definitely terrible. What I couldn't believe is how they got so many songs cleared in this movie. Oh and that horrible actress is Jennifer Tilly. I was also surprised at how this movie even got produced. I think the main actor singer/songwriter guy just bailed out of Hollywood completely. I looked up the director and she went on to direct typical 80's and 90's shows.

T.K. Carter's impeccable comic timing and Gabrielle Beaumont's snappy direction make this movie a joy to watch.

One for 80's nostalgists, ' He's My Girl ' is terrific fun, a screwball comedy with colourful characters and a great rock soundtrack. T.K. Carter is a blast as Reggie, the manager of would-be rock star Bryan Peters ( David Hallyday ), who dons drag to accompany his client on a prize-winning trip to Los Angeles, courtesy of a popular music TV show. As butch femme Regina, Reggie hopes to make Bryan's dream of stardom come true - but he hadn't counted on falling in love or the lecherous advances of the TV station manager!

Carter's impeccable comic timing and Gabrielle Beaumont's snappy direction make the movie a joy to watch. Musician Hallyday gets to belt out a few cool rock tracks and even Jennifer Tilly pops up in an early role as Bryan's sculptress girlfriend.

It wasn't THAT bad....?
cellomaster8 December 2002
Warning: Spoilers
'He's My Girl' is, I am sorry to say, another film which you pretty much have to force yourself to laugh at it. Yes, it's bad. No, it's not 'Titanic' or 'Lord of the Rings'. But it's a film that's so stupid, so pathetic, so poorly done, and so cheesy, it's actually rather fun to watch and make fun of. Perhaps that was the point from the very beginning.

***SPOILERS***

Bryan is an aspiring musician. His trouble-maker manager, Reggie, enters Bryan into a music contest in order to get him out to Hollywood and around the 'big-wig' music producers. Bryan wins (no surprise) but there's one catch: he cannot take Reggie with him. He has to take a girl! So clever Reggie decides to transform himself into a woman, courtesy of Bryan's mom, a beauty shop owner. Reggie becomes 'Regina', and 'she' and Bryan, posing as lovers, head off to sunny California. Complications arise, however, when the perverted head of the TV station sponsoring the contest falls for 'Regina', and Reggie falls for an employee of the station. Then Bryan falls for a waitress at the hotel where he and 'Regina' are staying. Soon Bryan is trying to hide Reggie's bust enhancements from his new love interest while 'Regina' is running around Hollywood in a BATHING SUIT...can this get any more crazy??

It's a stupid movie with lots of language and sexual content to go around. But that's ok. If you're looking for something stupid to lift your mood, I recommend it.

Great Movie!
batycb_1097725 April 2006
He's my girl is a very interesting movie with a creative plot.

This movie it is full of laughs and a few songs that you will go on singing for the rest of your life. The suspense in the movie is provided by all of the instances when you think the main character will be discovered to really be a man and the weird love triangles that he/she creates. Take time out to watch this movie. You will instantly fall in love with its light hearted plot and love themes. There is something for people of all ages. This is also one of the earlier works of Jennifer Tilly and TK Carter. You will be able to see that there performances are as good then as they are now.

Great 80s fun
sandi-gibbs197412 April 2020
David Hallyday might not have made it in the US but he is huge in France. He is dreamy and cool and not a bad actor at all. This movie is funny and full of great 80s nostalgia. A good watch for the weekend.

Rock Revival
nickknightforever22 January 2022
Brilliant film excellent soundtrack my favourite song is Church Of The Poison Spider.

I wish there was a spin-off movie featuring Simon Sledge (Warwick Simms) as the main character that would be awesome.

80's fun memories
aduanew25 March 2023
One of my favourite childhood films that carries memories and not to be taken seriously. A fun look into the past with wacky comedy from some interesting characters. TK plays his role awesomely for it to be such a plain story line. Overall great comedy simply because the actors were fabulous to me. You can't possibly look to take this piece seriously. I look at this film as a piece of 80's pop culture. Nowadays this would just be considered cheese but as a child of the 80's I can appreciate the zanyness each actor put into their character which is just lain stupid good fun. Watch this without judgment.
